actually there is, the FW bus does 2 things –it transfers data and it transfers and/or Sync’s to the power. if you have multiple devices that draw power the FW chain sync’s all of the timing between the devices.
A device like a deck or camera needs to send control commands to do things like start and stop the deck plus transfer the video data back to you – so the data stream needs to be operating in both directions. That process is something that can be interrupted by having devices attached but not powered up (thereby changing the syncing) or by sending so much “control” data up stream that the video data coming downstream to the drives can be interrupted. Canon and JVC cameras are most notable for causing FW protocol errors when other devices are on the FW bus.

Nope it’s a FW issue
remove every FW device that is not a camera and try again. Just un-mounting the drives does not release the FW buss.or add a FW card in the PCI slot so that the cameras and drives are on different busses. ( and no –for the 500th time– the FW400 and FW800 bus on your mac are the same internally)

Lots of questions but not a lot of info.First off– No It will never look right to transcode direct from NTSC (interlaced content) to 720p ( progressive content) without some sort of converter ie: Teranex / Alchemist
Try the 1080 29.97 DVCPROHD easy setup. your content is 29.97 so you are stuck with that frame rate unless you have access to a converter.Questions on your process–
are you routing the serial( RS422) signal or are you connecting the decks straight to the Kona2Are you converting the analog signal to SDI? if so How?
you must be running 10.3.9 if your running QT 7 have you updated to 7.01

I see no advantage or difference between Chroma-Keying with Varicam {4:2:2} vs. HDCam{3:1:1},
However I find Keying a progressive image easier than an Interlaced one however.Just do not worked compressed. You do not want to Key any footage when it is compressed. ( so no FW)

No not necessarily the 24PSF format is only in 1920×1080, 24p can SD or HD or HDV. So they can have varying data rates.

thats due to the implementation of the RP188 Timecode in FCP was not able to be viewed over anything but FW when it was introduced, no manufacturer was ready to actively see the flags over the standard TC protocols when this was first announced.
I don’t work in DV50 so I cannot answer any of the other questions, But I do know that AJA does now support accessing the Userbit info in the K2 control panel. Why not take a look at the inbound SDI video stream to see if the K2 is actually seeing the 24pA frame rate- the control panel will let you know if it sees it.

Re-install the Io Drivers — chances are your older driver does not work in FCP5.
there also maybe a firmware update depending on which Io you are using.gary adcock

I cover that in the day 3 post session….Sorry man. I have heard of more than a few getting zapped lately. It seems to happen most often when the 1200a is powered up and then connected to the computer.
a good rule.
TURN OFF the 1200a Deck BEFORE connecting a FW cable to it.
