Changing the Sequence settings will not change, fix, or make better the quality of the original footage.
While the DV50 codec shares many of the excellent qualities of the DVCProHD codec, doing color color correction with any compression is really a nightmare – what is compressed, and do you know how to adjust color to balance for that compression?
You are on the right track.

FCP does not support 24 frame editing in HDV. The kona2 handles everything that FCP can and then some.

Many of us use both without problem, I have nearly 30 drives of assorted sizes from both manufactures -both offer excellent tech support – I give one warning Lacie does not recommend stacking their drives on top of one another – This is a great recommendation- heed it.

that is correct Both the 400 & 800 Bus are the same on ALL mac’s – get a$70 PCA card for your laptop to attach your hard drive to. then the system controls the deck and the PCA bus handles the data through put.

you can use your deck or camera to monitor to a TV in a pinch.

Nope just use the Stock HDV easy setup settings and then set only the external monitor use the to the K2’s external preview to 1080i 29.97 (or 1080i25) – I do it all the time
IF you only have an SD monitor you can set the output to NTSC or PAL so you can preview on via down-convert.

[Steven Escobar] “I just bought a Kona 2 card for an HDCAM project I want to online. It’s an 85 minute feature and I want to purchase some drives that will last me a couple of years but I don’t want to spend more than $4000 if possible.”
OK lets look at the numbers 1080 29.97 is about 170 mgs per second.
when you take into account that you will most likely have at least a 2:1 ratio of footage to final content at full rez for the Online PLUS renders for audio and video, graphics etc.
My rule in HD isthe storage needs to be 5x the length of the final project.
So 85 minutes x 1080 29.97 10bit x 5 looks like about 4.2TEven SATA is not that cheap. Look to spend about $7K min.
