[Bob Zelin] ” We are ALL SCREWED No one knows what it going to happen. I certainly don’t go out and say “gee, how can I screw my clients so they can hate me”.”
Yeah bob, but you do not make your living selling iPods, then you could screw them and smile.
it’s about Video iPods. I bought a nano last week and it is already obsolete,
welcome to the jungle for the rest of you. < GNR volume rises in the background>Gary Adcock

[Sean ONeil] ” The only easy solution I hear is a Teranex.”
Walter is correct, while the K2 does up-conversion equal to or better than most of the hardware up converts on the market the Teranex’s combo of hardware and software is by far the best on the market for this task.

[David Roth Weiss] “I’m with you on this one… Going the other direction, from PAL to NTSC, dupes would be expected. Frame blending is what I expect going NTSC to PAL.”
Try it in Compressor
or look at the apple training’s PAL demo footage (converted in compressor)29.97 does not evenly divide into 25
It was explained to me that ever few seconds the difference between DF and NDF catches up and the software just say
“I’ll use this again” — It is why I recommend the Nattress Filters for people that only need to do a couple of files.IT is also the reason I only have do this in the hardware I mentioned in an earlier post.
I also have said this is not something us NTSC guys are can normally even see- it is unique to a less than accurate transcoding to PAL.

[David Roth Weiss] “2.5 gigs is the sweet spot when considering both cost and performance. There are performance benefits when RAM is increased to 4gb, but for most users those benefits may not be enough to justify the additional cost.”
That sweet spot was for a DV workflow I thought, not for HDV. The HD formats all seem to want 4 gigs in my experience.
and while David is correct on how the CPU is handling the HDV content the RT functions in FCP are dependent on a combination of CPU power, Drive Speed and RAM.One other factor affecting performance– available disk space on the startup drive. when that disk is more than 80% full performance will reduce down.

October 12, 2005 at 1:58 pm in reply to: uncompressed 4:2:2 1080psf 23.98 freezes during capture[Robert Douglas] “The array is an S-Two DMAG: basically six seagate 35 gig hard drives operating at 15k rpm via fibre channel Mac card. Mac OS is Tiger by the way.”
Just barely enough speed or platters for 1080| 24ps
with this type of content you will need a min of 200mgs a sec data transfer. this set up can only do about 130 or so ( I think I remember that)
what does your disk test tell you the write speed is.

you need to manually set the deck control to DV and make a new easy setup.

[kdwalter] “What is the difference of capturing 24p and off-frame varicam footage in the 720p 60 or 720p 24 easy setup mode in Final Cut 5?”
Over FW or HDSDI?
Over FW you will only be able to capture the offspeed footage at 720p60. Then process the file in the software FRC.
Products like the Kona 2 and Kona LH have prebuilt easy set ups that have the ability to extract the offspeed flagged frames properly via HDSDI. This hardware based process allows the user to capture the offspeed content as a
de-compressed video stream when needed for graphics and color correction. These boards also have the ability to re-compress the HDSDI video stream back to the DVCProHD codec when you only have access to decks such as AJHD-1700 or other older Panasonic DVCproHD decks that do not have FW connections.
