I don’t have any issues with apple’s fibre cards (made by LSI) i use them in both mac’s and windows machines. I have found the current celerity drivers to be much flakier.

So today only apples cards are shipping. don’t be too quick to judge.

then try running the updater. it should then ask for a valid serial number for the updater.

I did a test with and without a kona card when this first came up last fall and I actually did find that the cards handling of the scaling did add one additional track of 720p material to my timelines (2.5DP / 4G Ram / 2 T fibre array / using the DVCPROHD codec)

Reading a large file and then righting a version of that file back to the same logistical position is a disk caching issue. Think about it has having both hands full and you need to change which hand the objects – it is much easier when you take from one side and give to another — rather than having to set something down to pick up something else.

I am with Chris on this,720p24 is a little over 5 megabytes a second, your DV25 footage will be aright about 4 megabytes a second. not enough of a difference to not work in the native DVCPROHD codec.
That way your are assured that it will conform later.

Not just for the Kona 2, but for literally all non teranex up-converts, I have heard of rejects from Sony,Panasonic and BMD products when people try to pass off their footage as HD.

On a good scope the difference is amazing between the Universal upconvert chip that most all of the 3rd party’s use for this and what the teranex can produce.

This is not just a Kona 2 problem, it is an industry wide issue.

Sorry but here in this forum at this time, that is just not the case. I am glad it works for you but USB storage for video is NOT SUPPORTED as a workflow by apple or by any drive manufacturer as far as I know not even Lacie, as USB is totally unreliable on the mac for video editing.
Just because you can do it for a short clip does not mean that it can be used in day to day editing environment.

It is a disservice to our readers to come online and claim that it works, when every forum leader and regular on this forum say that you should not do it.

Eric, caution, That only works as a short term emergency fix for capture when you have a problem with the serial connection in my experience, especially since FW is only accurate within 3-5 frames, while the serial control on the Kona 2 is frame accurate.
The artifacts you are seeing are not uncommon in this setup when trying to output. I have seen them also, as you most likely have found out the entire system slows down when the deck is attached via FW and the FW bus is NOT being used for ingest.
My guess it is a collision on the FW bus between the data streams.
