Offline/Online w/ 720p24fps HD Varicam in FCP HD?
I’m starting post on a feature shot with the Panasonic AJ-HDC27F Varicam. Footage shot at 24fps(actually 23.98 as confirmed by DP) I have start digitizing with the 1200A Varicam deck though FW 800 with the Digitizer set to DV Video adn the Compressor set to DV/DVCPRO NTSC and 23.98, so that I can have more storage. Everything plays fine in both monitors, I figured out the correct sequence settings for everything and seems to be fine. But I’m worried about going back and conforming it after picture is locked. I’m worried about it not being able to re-dig correctly at full HD quality and keep everything ‘to the frame’ and in sync. I notice when I jog through the footage after it’s in the system that every 4th frame or so is dropped, this makes sense I guess with the compensation needed for the frame rate and all that. But am i going down the wrong road here? Am I going to be able to online this thing correctly? Any help would immensely appreciated.

Don’t bother with DV compression. You can edit 720 24p HD on a powerbook (only 40mbs). The DVCRPOHD compression is very easy to work with, and you get to edit in HD!
Offline is becomming a thing of the past.

I am with Chris on this,720p24 is a little over 5 megabytes a second, your DV25 footage will be aright about 4 megabytes a second. not enough of a difference to not work in the native DVCPROHD codec.
