[doka15] “Can the Century Optics $350 .6 wide angle adapter be used with the lens shade on the HVX without visual interference?”

    sorry but no.
however it will work with the Century Matte box.

May 24, 2006 at 9:31 pm in reply to: Avid or FCP? Adobe has dropped the ball.

[Shane Ross] “Anyway…the G-Raid connected via FW400 gives me:

    30.5MB Write
    36.5MB Read
Again, compared to my EZQuest at:
    25.3MB Write
    31.4MB Read.”

those are pretty accurate for what you should be getting- a single hard drive (non-sata) cannot write much faster than the numbers you quote above.

Now if you had 2-single FW 400 drives on 2 separate FW buses you should get that to about 60- 65 megs for writes.

  • Q[JeremyG] “t’ll do this through built in analog component, but the monitor doubles the frame rate to 1080/48.”

Actually it is showing the actual format which it is –1080 24psf – and it has to play back as a Progressively Segmented Frame — It is the way that sony built the 1080 format, so it could maintain the interlaced format for legacy to the earlier HD formats.

It is my understanding that only a couple of decks (SR and D5) can handle the content as a true progressive fame and the only the highest caliber of display can do the same ($$$$$)

[Mitch Ives] “Trust me Shane, this is the worst kept secret in the Universe among those of us with the inside track. Get some testing software and test the speed of a drive hooked to the FW800 port. “

    Sorry Mitch,
I am with Shane this is not the case with the Intel laptops,
With the G4 book using the 400 & 800 FW buses at the same time only gave FW 400 speeds.

May 23, 2006 at 1:18 pm in reply to: P2 footage with AJA Kona2

[Shane Ross] “Don’t use the AJA codecs. Just choose DVCPRO HD 720p60 or 720p24…whatever format the footage was shot in.”

Nope Shane– needs to use the AJA easy set up to play the video out on the display.

I’m with Jeremy – the poster did not create a new seq.

May 19, 2006 at 1:22 pm in reply to: monitoring HVX 200 footage

[visulfx] “what should I set my sequence at and easy setup to edit in real time out to my monitor or is this possible? I shot it in 720 24p DVC PRO 50 HD.”

if you shot on P2 in the 720p24 PN then use the default 720p24 easy set up

if you shot 720p24 the footage will need to be imported into FCP and Run the Software FRC that was designed for content from the varicam.

Apple’s white paper on editing with the HVX200 https://images.apple.com/pro/pdf/L317074A_FCP_Wkflw.pdf

    FYI

DVCPRO 50 is an SD codec
    DVCPROHD is the HD version

May 18, 2006 at 11:54 am in reply to: Teranex Mini

[Franco Bogino] “Has anyone used the Teranex Mini? I am wondering what the quality of it’s HD upconversion is. I’ve heard positive rumours.”

Franco– they are not rumors- the mini brings the Teranex line into the mainstream for all typed of users that are in the quandary of what to do with all of the legacy needs in the video space. The up-conversion is the usual AMAZING quality one has come to expect from that brand, I find the FlexView in upconverts one of the hottest new innovations of the last year.
At -/+ $6K US the mini’s are very cost effective for those that need that type of conversion

[Franco Bogino] “At the moment we are using the Sony M2000 for Beta or Digi material, but for DVCam and DVD we are having to do the conversion in FCP. The FCP conversion is passable except for shots that display notable antialiasing.”

Teranex conversion is specified by many networks (the BBC is one) and will fail projects that do not meet the teranex standard.

[Noah Kadner] “Not a fan of LaCie but people will say all drive companies fail and it’s true.”

    How true
    all hard drives fail.
Always reformat all drives with your preferred OS.
