May 26, 2006 at 7:31 pm in reply to: Bit rate / quallity of 1080p footage

[Ken Nemetchek] “I have concluded the following: because 1080p footage is spilt over two fields in the DVCPRO HD (60i) codec (@ 24 fps, I assume it is only 2 fields… or is it more?!)”

ken this has nothing to do with the DVCPROHD codec- 1080 24 is recorded as a Progressive Segmented Frame (psf) – or a progressive capture that plays back as interlace — this is even true for HDCAM. 1080 24 plays back as 48i.

The only true progressive capture in 1080 is to a tape deck or array from cameras like genesis & viper.

[Ken Nemetchek] ” I’m curious about just what the effective data rate would be in a FCP timeline.”

it is the same data rate

  • [Wayne Carey] “To be perfectly honest, if I had the budget, I would go with the Panasonic AJ-HDC27H camera and work entirely in DVCPRO HD. Panasonic does make some absolutely awesome video but I still don’t like the concept of P2 and the constant swaping of those expensive cards.”

Then look at the HDX900… no VFR no P2, but 1080 and 720 @ 24, 25,30p, 60i/p to DVCPROHD tape, HDSDI, SDI ,FW. outs

[Sean ONeil] “The first thing you tried did not work because “Advanced Pulldown Removal” is a special feature for a handful of standard-defenition NTSC cameras. “

To be correct it is not just NTSC but all interlaced formats, Progressive capture does not have a need for 24pA.

[xstimux] “I did a telecine tranfer of some 16mm footage to the Panasonic 1200a deck. We layed it down at 720p60”
Why would you not keep it at 23.98 as it was coming off the telecine.

[xstimux] “I brought the footage into final cut pro and I need the footage to be 23.98 so it intercuts with most of my other HVX200 footage I have shot.”

Did you even try to capture using the 720p24 setting (if using FW to dig) FCP 5.04 is actually smart enough to to force this capture as long as you set in and out points during capture “Capture Now”will NOT work.

[xstimux] “Then I try and use the DVCPRO HD frame rate convertor but it gives me an error everytime saying “an error occured during processing, unable to conform source media””
this is as John said the FRC cannot remove flags that are not there.

AS Noah said Cinema tools is the simple solution for removing the redundant frame from any type of clip that FCP can see/use.

“There’s no advanced pulldown to remove because only 24p camera shot footage has it.”

    Oops
there is no advanced pulldown because the 720p format is progressive, advanced pulldown is only possible in the interlaced formats.

  • [James Mulryan] “Sony is offering this for free. Why should P2/Apple users have to pay for HD Log, when Sony is offering their interface for free?”

Maybe because XDcam is still HDV no matter what you call it or how you work with it.

May 25, 2006 at 1:57 pm in reply to: Wide Angle Adapter

[doka15] “Is that due to the adapter not being able to fit with the hood on. Or is it because the video that you capture you will be able to see the lens hood in the shot?”

    both Lars
there is not a bayonet for the OEM on the adaptor and the Standard lens hood does get in the way

May 25, 2006 at 1:54 pm in reply to: how do you do graphics with DVCProHD ?

[Bob Zelin] “now the graphics guys can’t address it because there is no DVCProHD Codec – how do you do an AE job ?”

    Bob
the DVCPROHD codec is loaded as part of FCP, so FCP would need to be installed on the same machine to be able to access the codec. As far as I know there is not a downloadable codec to run DVCPROHD without it (and none in windows)

( and fcp does not have to be serialized to gain access to the codec)
