  • how do you do graphics with DVCProHD ?

Posted by Bob Zelin on May 25, 2006 at 11:48 am

I know nothing about AE, and I have gotten several questions from HD installs that I can’t answer that involve – we work with DVCProHD with the Kona, and now the graphics guys can’t address it because there is no DVCProHD Codec – how do you do an AE job ?

Any help with this silly question would be appreciated .

the DVCPROHD codec is loaded as part of FCP, so FCP would need to be installed on the same machine to be able to access the codec. As far as I know there is not a downloadable codec to run DVCPROHD without it (and none in windows)

( and fcp does not have to be serialized to gain access to the codec)

Just have them use the standard 1280 x 720 HD Uncompressed setting and render to that. Or they can simply create the entire 1280 x 720 comp, then squish it so 960 wide anamporphic and render it that way so it will match the frame size of the rest of the DVCPro HD timeline. FCP can then stretch it back to 1280.

When it comes into FCP, the FCP user will have to re-render the animation, but this does work fine. At one time Panasonic had the DVCPro HD components on their website for the Mac to download. It was in the Support page of the 1200A deck. You can also have the FCP user pull the codec out of their Quicktime folder for other Mac users.
