January 15, 2012 at 3:46 pm in reply to: AJA Io XT

    Tom,

The IoXT is not yet shipping.

While I am not an Aja employee nor any type of official spokesperson for the company, I have demoed the IoXT workflow with both FCP 7 (normal usage) and with FCPX (desktop mirroring) at IBC and a couple of other shows.

Based on experiance with the IoXpress, any content that can play in the time line in your preferred NLE will be output by the device, I would expect that the IoXT would respond the same.

    What are you connected to?

What serial protocol does the application you are using say that it is using in the prefs.

Did you make sure to choose one of the IoHD Presets?

If you are using a deck the deck needs to be set into Remote to allow control to happen externally.

January 13, 2012 at 8:16 pm in reply to: KiPro play out of different formats

[Danny Skarka] “We get files from a variety of clients for play out. So it looks like I need to convert everything to Pro Rez 422 or am I missing a better solution?”

    Uh, yeah

the unit only sees what it creates, which is Apple’s ProRes, what made you think the unit would see any other format on the drive modules?

What format are the files in question?

    Format
    Frame Rate
    Codec

.if the files were not recorded in the KiPro check the audio setting of each file, most app’s render audio at 16 bit. not the 24bit 48k audio that the recorer is looking for.

January 4, 2012 at 3:49 pm in reply to: Recording from Cable Box via HDMI or component.

[Rodrigo Allendes-Fernandez] “So, modifing the signal passing by several converters, will do eliminate the copy protection?”

there is no copy protection in an analog video signal.

    Herb,

It is my understanding that the original KiPro will Not support DNX encoding.

    Sorry,

Aja adheres to the HDMI spec that includes digital copy protection, that is the reason you cannot get it to work.

Playing from the camera into the Mini is a great way to get your clips converted at the highest quality, you are using the camera’s hardware, as designed, to deliver the files. By recording that signal as ProRes, you are allowing the highest possible quality to be used in post.

And YES, from now on you can use the KiPro Mini while shooting to get that quality right onset, without transcoding.

Make sure you check the setup to allow the Mini to start and stop recording automatically (via TC as RP188 and the ArmRec function) so the Tc on the ProRes files mirror the camera originals !

Jeremy and I have both posted numerous times about those settings, so a search here on the Cow should give you the menu setting that I do not have off the top of my head.

You will never have more than your captured originally.

YES, capturing via the HDSDI will not “upgrade” previously captured footage into a 10bit ProRes container, it will have been converted into the best possible via this hardware conversion/ decompression as the HDSDI stream is an uncompressed output, but recording errors and compression artifacts may still cause issues.

NOTE: A live output signal from the camera has not been processed and would be a higher quality recording. If you want the highest quality recording with the KiPro Mini, record from the camera live while shooting, not afterwards.

December 21, 2011 at 3:34 pm in reply to: Cam to IoXT as fast as IoXT to Comp via Thunderbolt?

[Frank Black] “hey guys, what does it mean that “Thunderbolt can run for 100 metres over optical fibre without a repeater.” — something I found online. does this mean that we dont have to go with the 6′ thunderbolt cable?”

YES That is part of the Thunderbolt spec, but will not be enabled for at least 2 years – we are using copper at this time for TB connectivity.

    ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

You do not seem to understand the difference between all of the tools and terms.

Thunderbolt is a data transfer tool like FW or USB but faster than both,

SDI and HDSDI are used to deliver REAL TIME video signals and virtually nothing you will come in contact with can handle anything other than a real time signal.

The IoXT, like the Kona 3G, BMD Ultra Studio, and Matox MXO series tools need to be attached to a computer to work and ALL of these devices record video as played from a camera in REALTIME.

The KiPro, KiPro Mini, BMD Shuttle, Convergent Design NANO and other devices all are stand alone capture devices- but after capture the data MUST be moved to a computer to edit with- none of these recorders also act as a editorial device like the computer connected IoXT or Kona 3G can be.
