December 20, 2011 at 2:08 pm in reply to: Cam to IoXT as fast as IoXT to Comp via Thunderbolt?

so if i have a cam connected to an aja via sdi, and aja to a mac via thunderbolt, then would the footage get from the cam to the aja as fast as it would from the aja to the mac?

The IoXT requires a computer, it is not a stand alone device, so I do not understand your question.

The IoXT is a Kona Card accessible externally via Thunderbolt, it will respond the same manner as a Kona Card, so you can handle what ever formats your storage will allow you to record.

No cameras currently have Thunderbolt ports, but Canon and others have announced that they will support it.

[Frank Black] “whats the big deal about thunderbolt if it still takes the same amount of time for the camera to transfer to the IoXT passthrough as it did for the cam to transfer directly to the comp via SDI to an internal IoExpress.”

HDSDI is used mainly for realtime viewing of uncompressed video images.

Thunderbolt is used to connect storage and other devices to a computer, it can handle both display and content on the same pipe, but it is not a Video Interface.

Playback of images from a camera would be the same in both cases

However the Transfer of data from that camera over Thunderbolt would be considerably faster than is possible over an HDSDI connection (this is called HSDL- and is used on film scanners and on high end cameras like Alexa and f65 but no where else)

The eyepiece says arricam and it appears to be an Arri 435 film camera.

November 20, 2011 at 3:00 pm in reply to: economic capturing of RecRun-HDCAM-tapes …

    Mathais,

You can do this with a KiPro recorder, where every single clip is now a new editable file for post, as defined by the TC breaks on the tapes .

With the KiPro, the transcoding process is done with embedded TC, and you will only need to actively touch the system when you need to replace the SR tape.

Hence the reason I suggested pullinng FCPX out of your trash bin.

Apple does not currently support hardware with FCPX, but has promised compatibility with furture releases, let’s hope that this indeed comes true.!

November 5, 2011 at 11:40 pm in reply to: AJA needs to respond to future of ioHD

[Morten Ranmar] “Well actually other NLEs do support ProRea, so a portation of the product should be possible.”

Not as a native codec, I am sorry to say. Even MC will convert the file when rendering for output.

The IoHD can handle Uncompressed files on desktop systems able to handle the compression de-compression cycles, but that does not mean that the device was designed to work with them. If you read the original PR releases on the web, the IoHD was designed solely with FCP in mind as it was built in conjunction with Apple.

November 5, 2011 at 7:29 pm in reply to: AJA needs to respond to future of ioHD

[Morten Ranmar] “Many others are in the same situation, and we need some kind of roadmap fron AJA in order to feel that our investment has not been a mistake”

The IoHD was designed specifically as a playback device for FCP users, it has not ever worked with any other companies software or hardware tools beyond AJA and Apple. It has always been a ProRes only device, I am sure that if any other NLE software wanted to support ProRes on this device it would have been by now.

If you change your preferred NLE’s why is that incumbent on any MFG to support your decision to change?

This has not been the case with hardware specific tools made for Pinnacle, early Media 100, Sony Xpri, discreet Edit or any other previous NLE”s that are no longer supported in the marketplace.

You might re-think the need to dig FCPX out of the trashbin, as far as I know this device has never been supported on any other editing toolset.

Does that mean that I am out of luck with my 2.5 year old Lhe?

My guess is your 2.5 year old computer does not support the rest of the needed specs for MC6.

    Really?

720p 23.98 is a non -standard playback format and since the KiPro does not have the ability to add or remove pulldown, how is it possible to playback this frame rate as anything other than a conversion to 1080 23.98?

Color is a separate application, you seem to be implying that if it works in one place it will work everywhere, that’s is not the case.

Have you setup the Color.app output Preferences to use the Kona Card for output and playback.

This is totally separate from the prefs on the card or in FCP.
