SF (1080pSF) in this case means segmented frame

A search here on the Cow would supply info relevant to your specific issue also.

PsF is a transmission protocol, designed for legacy compatibility and is typically used over HD/ SDI , your device decided whether you are seeing P or PsF.

It is designed after (and mimics) the “double shutter” technique used to playback 24fps film in theaters, were every frame is exposed to the screen 2 times.

  • I have checked file recorded on 3 different cameras running v3 and not seen this issue. Most cameras are on v4 by now.

I am only working from camera masters, how are you handling data?

Are you working from copies, clones or Dmg files?

What tools were used to move the data if not on the original SxS media?

I have not seen machine specs or versions.

October 22, 2011 at 4:05 am in reply to: No 24fps (exact) on KiPro

    Neil,

Yes the KiPro can record 24.0 psf fps over HDSDI on the Sony F3, note that camera does not send out a true P signal only PsF over HDSDI.

HDMi signals are always true progressive on output

My guess is that the camera maybe set for DF recording( even thought 23.98, 24.0 &25 a NDF) it may be causing the camera to error,

Also make sure that the menu for ingest format be set to “Normal”- and not VFR or Progressive.

  • [Glenn Camhi] “This place hasn’t dealt with Alexa/PR4444 footage yet. They’ve never had a problem with anything else, though. They are considerably more affordable than the big post houses around, which makes this a particular bummer.”

If you are passing this off to someone else, what are they finishing on?

I have never run accross this issue with Alexa materials, not on an uptodate finishing system.

Make sure your finisher under stands the file size issue. I checked a 10G Pr444 file direct from an Alexa sxs card in the MC 5.5.1 on windows without issue.

October 19, 2011 at 1:35 am in reply to: Which RAID for FCPX?

[Jason Jenkins] “Will a faster RAID increase realtime performance? In other words, will it decrease the need to render?”

That would depend on your setup.

    the short answer is yes.

Render times are dependant on Processor speed, but handling of the content is done by drives, and the faster your drives the faster your computer can handle moving the data from one place to another.

This is especially important when moving massive files of data, as all of the read / writes are faster, allowing the CPU’s to work at optimium speed because they are not dealing with

October 19, 2011 at 1:28 am in reply to: Impoting ALEXA footage into FCP

[andrew smith] “I will of course need to apply the LUT given to us and apply that to not only the ProRes footage I am editing with BUT also to the .ari sequences while converting to DPX – any help would be greatly appreciated as its super time sensitive that I accomplish all of this.
    thank you”

would go with the GlueTools Arriraw plug-in, I have worked with the others but I find the GT workflow the easiest to handle. Bob is the master when converting arriraw to DPX

October 14, 2011 at 2:43 pm in reply to: Workflow: 1080 60p from Panasonic HDC-TM700 camera

[Detlef Villerius] “I converted my HDC700 1080 50P files… imported them in Final Cut.
…Dropped them on a 25 frames timeline and changed the speed to 50% “

[Detlef Villerius] “not all frames are identical; every other frame is the same as the one before, if this makes sense but it looks like this112233445566…. “

    Detlef.

This is the correct frame seq for a 25fps sequence slowed down 50%

A 50fps converted file should automaticly play at the 1/2 the speed of the original file, there are differences between how the file is handled in FCPX over FCP7

[jochen schreier] “Hi all. I recently bought a BMD, installed its software, but don`t find the deck on my mac while it`s connected to the computer. What can I do? on top of that: is it possible to format the ssd`s while they are mounted on the deck?

This is the AJA KiPro forum, why aren’t you asking questions in the BMD forums, you might have better luck

October 3, 2011 at 3:23 pm in reply to: AJA KONA 3G on POWER PC with IBM processors

[Lobarev Eugene] “U see, that KONA 3G work on PPC G5 LATE)) “

That was a fairly rare machine, you are correct the card will work in that machine- However You will be only able to handle Uncompressed and maybe DVCProHD, you will not be able to playback many of the ProRes flavors, AVCHD or some R3D on that computer without an intel processor.

” But I see on monitor from composite or HDMI only noise. “

How are you watching Composite Video- the K3G only has Component, HDMI and HDSDI V-outs.

    Did you re-flash the firmware?
you are going back generations in hardware , and the newer firmware will not work with older versions, your bigger issue is that most of the tools you need to read and playback RED content will not run on a PPC machine.

ProRes HQ will have limited ouptut success on A PPC machine, and the Min specs for FCP7 require Intel processor.

So it “may” work- my guess is more hassle than anything
