The KONA2 audio in is either Digital AES EBU or Embedded SDI, not Analog.

As for KONA support and FinalCut Pro for that matter, the DVCProHD is far and away the better supported format.

Your System Preference -> Sounds SoundOut should be set to KONA2 and the output level set to 66% or 67%. Input level is reset by FCP settings.

The KONA Cntrl Panel sets the input choice AES or SDI, but all outputs should be live at all times.

Are all both of the cables connected properly from the KONA to the Kbox?

You should get audio out at all times including system alerts. If not you may have an issue with the kBox.

And since you’ve not answered the simplest question, I’ll ask again,

Are you getting any digital audio out of the KONA2 directly?

I with Gary, tech support gets back to me within a few hours at most.

But first what device control presets have you chosen?

I have found that when we are using Firewire to control the deck we somtimes forget to reset the device control and protocol.

The is a mention of 1080p under Dual Link in the above pdf, and only a mention of 1080psf 23.98 and 1080psf 24 for Video Inputs.

Gary, you are the Guru, but the question was about 1080p.

1080P and 1080 PsF are not the same thing.

1080PsF is supported, and as you noted it is reconstructed by the marriage of 2 interlaced fields back into one progressive frame.

Common 1080p formats like 1080p/30, 1080p/29.97, 1080p/25, 1080p/24, 1080p/23.98
are not suported as of now, but 1080p/24, 1080p/23.98 might look like PsF to the Kona

I may be wrong on this but I do not believe that USB 2.0 cannot pass uncompressd 4:4:4, for that matter neither can FireWire 400/800.

Let us all know how the modification goes.

As far as 1080p goes, I have not seen it on a KONA. 1080i yes not 1080p.

It is not a stupid response. If we were in a single user everything on one desktop environment, we could plug the deck into the monitor for viewing. Our KONA2 outputs are into SD/HD DAs that in trun feed the editors displays. We can, and do patch the deck into the DA and bypass the KONA2.

We just wanted to confrim that FCP does not feed the FireWire signal to the KONA2 during Log and Capture.

Also we were experimenting with compareing SDI -> DVDProHD vs FireWire -> DVCProHD.

Todays Dual 2Ghz does not have any PCIX slots, all three slots are PCI. This is not good for a KONA2.

Previous generation dual 2.0 did in fact have three PCIX slots. The speed of those slots was 133Mhz on the single top slot and 100Mhz shared on the two lower slots.
