  • Kona 2 Analog audio in?

Posted by Randy on September 28, 2005 at 10:51 pm

I have a Kona 2 system and am wondering if there is a way to get a balanced audio input through it to capture in FCP 5? I just want to record a VO track through the system. I noticed in the Kona Control Panel that there is an “analog” audio input option, so I selected it and fed a signal to Channel 1/2 but I’m not registering a signal through FCP. Any ideas? Thanks.

The KONA2 audio in is either Digital AES EBU or Embedded SDI, not Analog.

I saw this too, I was thinking it must be some sort of mistake with the new drivers.

The Kona 2 is digital Audio in only. AJA is consolidating the drivers for the Kona line so those analog audio input options would only work for the Kona LS and LH.

That is what I figured but wanted to make sure. Thanks guys! Anyone know of a good firewire or USB input device to capture audio sound files? 🙂

    Hi Randy–

We’re using an SD-Connect device from Convergent Design to give us A-D conversion, allowing to to get analog audio and video in and out of our Kona2. It works great, but may be overkill for your needs.

Thanks for the response Mark. Probably is overkill for what I’m looking for. Nice interface though, I’ve heard great things about it.

Plug your mic into the mic input your analog mixer, plug your line out mixer into the product above, plug the AES XLR input of the kona 2, change the audio input to XLR in the control panel, and record away. I have this product and it works very well.

    or

Record the vo on to tape and digitize.

    Hi all:

I’ve just been experimenting with another interface — the M-AUDIO FireWire 410 — and it’s working very well so far. It gives me 2 mic/line/instrument pre’s capable of 24-bit 96 Khz, two independent headphone outs, SPDIF/coax ins/outs — and the extra bonus of 8 (unbalanced 1/4″ T/S) discrete analog outputs, which I am using to feed my 5.1 surround amp. So now I can create and monitor 5.1 mixes either in FCP or Soundtrack or ProTools and use the other two outs to feed a BetaSP deck.

Pretty sweet little box — all for CAD $300.

And I’ve still got AES audio out to a higher-end deck, via XLR, BNC or SDI embedded — courtesy of the K-Box!

    Hi Jim,

Where did you get the FW 410 for CAD $300? Lowest price I can find is CAD $569.

    Hey Harley:

Long and McQuade Music Store in Toronto had a massive attic sale — there was about a hundred of these units for $300 CAD each, brand new. Perhaps you could call them and still get one…
