It’s my CG and paint program. I do a lot of graphics for corporate work; couldn’t do without it.

As far as I know the only DVCPro HD solution for Vegas is a third party codec from Serious Magic. $195.

November 15, 2005 at 4:36 pm in reply to: Luke: Decklink SP and G4 dual 1.2???

    Mark and Luke,

A better, less expensive 2-drive array for the G4 and a DL card is to use ATA drives and not SATA. The ATA bus doesn’t seem to be affected by the DL card polling. I’ve got two 250GB Hitachi ATA drives striped on the ATA100 bus and the read/write performance is 100MB empty and about 90MB full. The only downside is the Mac system drive has to be put on the ATA66 bus but it’s really not that bad.

  • Kai,

The card is not compatible with the PCI bus on the new 2Ghz machine. You must have a G5 with PCI-X slots which are available on the older 2.0/2.5Ghz and new 2.3/2.7Ghz Macs. It’s an Apple issue and documented on the BMD website. I found out the hard way and ended up with a new 2Ghz G5 that I couldn’t return or exchange (B&H Photo) for a 2.3Ghz.

I’m using a FirmTek dual channel SATA card with two 250GB drives. So far, no problems.

Media 100 needs to stay alive if for no other reason than to have more NLE choices and competition on the Mac. We, too, have moved on to FCP but still have a lone M100 XR that’s alive and kicking . I haven’t let it go just in hopes that the company would indeed undergo a true revival.

Thanks Matt. I tried your suggestion and even more slot placement configurations but unfortunately with the same negative results. Take the DL SP out and the RAID screams. Put it in and the RAID slows down. Very dissapointing.

  • Not with FCP. Not sure about other products but I do know that NewTek’s VT4 can do it real-time. It can play back almost any video file as long as the codec is on the system. Works great for mixing DV and analog-captured footage in the same timeline. Sure wish Final Cut could do it.
