Boris FX aquires media100!
Posted by John Twigt on September 12, 2005 at 8:39 pmWent to the IBC today and heard great news. Boris FX has aquired Media100 from Optibase. I think this could mean there’s still some future in the media100 products. Hopefully they’ll restore some R&D and new developments will follow.
Didn’t read a press release though, but it was confirmed by a media100 represantative. Just keeping low profile I suppose.

September 12, 2005 at 9:15 pmAlthough I have used FCP/AJA on the last few projects to great satisfaction, I still have and use my M100i(x3) and hope to that this great software company can embrace M100 and produce something fantastic for those of us who have been using M100 and continue to use it.
Under the right circumstances I would put money into M100 products.
I have not purchased M100HD because I feel it is overpriced and M100 has fallen out of the mainstream.
I think it is important for BorisFX to embrace the P6000 and 844x clientele for the line to survive and flourish. (get as many people re-registered as you can, and quickly)
I probably would have bought an 844x if it was on OSX/Mac, and from what I have heard it is an amazing piece of hardware.
Renewed support for p6000/844x/Dare I say ICE – please!!
Why not allow FCP to “see” the M100 Hardware? (FCP is the wave right now, and is here to stay).
OMF support PLEASE!
Layers with advanced masking/effects/geometrics, great(est) colour correction, advanced motion effects , elegant HDV – Please!
Automatic Duck support to go to and from the majors with programs and bins, por favor!! You have to have interaction with the main platforms.

September 13, 2005 at 9:49 amHi,
I generally monitor the Boris COW forum; this is the first time I’ve posted to the Media 100 forum. While this is an interesting thread, nothing is official. If we have any news to report, I promise we’ll post a press release here (and on the Boris forum) with all relevant information.Meanwhile, we have announced the availability of Boris Final Effects Complete (FEC) version 4.02. FEC includes more than 100 native plug-ins for Adobe After Effects, Apple Final Cut Pro, Discreet Combustion as well as Boris Red, FX and Graffiti. A future version will add support for Adobe Premiere Pro. A second version, Final Effects Complete AVX (FEC AVX), will add support for the AVX 1.0 architecture.
You can download a 14-day trial version from https://www.borisfx.com/esd/main.php
Thanks,
Anne Renehan

thanks a lot for stepping in here, and I hope you keep us updated 😉
Btw. is there an updater for your existing FEC 4.01 users to update to the new version?

September 13, 2005 at 5:48 pmMedia 100 needs to stay alive if for no other reason than to have more NLE choices and competition on the Mac. We, too, have moved on to FCP but still have a lone M100 XR that’s alive and kicking . I haven’t let it go just in hopes that the company would indeed undergo a true revival.

September 13, 2005 at 9:29 pmOf course nothing has been finalised in the purported purchase of M100 by Boris FX.
There of course many synergies between the companies, many smiles about relinking old employees with M100 and shared paths.I’m sure we all hope Boris takes charge of one of the few NLE’s that provides competition to FCP.
As we move forward i would like to suggest to Boris, as they do due diligence on OBase’s Media100 unit, to include several key moves with any new ownership. They may only return investment funds and not make a deal of money for the bottom line but they would do wonders for rebuilding the goodwill of a once proud brand.
One would be to Immediately release an OMF option created by Diaquest for free to all users who stayed with M100 Mac HD during the tough times. Do an amazing deal on the Software only licence to existing users.
Then aim to release Vers 4 for 844x in 2006. Perhaps even combine it with completing work on an Auto Duck plug in. This will allow 844 users to keep working thru 2006-7 and would add inter-operability between other NLE’s which has been long called for.
I think we all know it’s too complicated and too expensive to take 844 any further with hardware but Vers 4 was a few months from release and many existing users actually paid for it with their platinum contracts.
Dont be shy either in asking this very loyal and valuable resource, the Cow M100’ers
what they think, want or dont want. Actually we know what we dont want.
More of we’ve just had!John
