September 15, 2005 at 12:46 pmEven if Boris acquires Media 100, I will still never, ever purchase an Optibase product due to their incompetence. They can dry up and blow away as far as I’m concerned.
As for Boris, if this does happen, please, please strongly give consideration to reviving the 844/x. There is no current product on the planet that even comes close to its capabilities. I would acquire every update you release for it as well as a compatible Boris Red which I know you were working on but was never released. I was even on track to acquire the 844/x HD until Optibase pulled the plug on the project. It would’ve been a show stopper at the last NAB.

September 15, 2005 at 3:39 pmHi,
Sorry it’s taken me so long to respond to the FEC question. I’ve been travelling from IBC. Anyhow, existing users can upgrade from FEC version 3.52 or later for $99. We haven’t yet posted an upgrade version to our website, but you could download the full Trial version until we post it shortly. (Our website is down for a little while as our building was apparently struck by lightening. We should be up shortly.)
Thanks,
Anne -

September 15, 2005 at 9:33 pmWell, I too have heard the “good news” about BorisFX and I’m confident this is on the up&up! I agree with many of you about 844X and have high hopes for HD on the Mac platform (I cut my first HD show on it and I had ZERO problems!)
I am a user of both the i system going back to 1997 and the 844X from the very beginning and I have to tell you that both products have their uses. The workflow on 844X is untouchable even as it stands today. The “pricepoint for performance” is unmatched and I love it…even though I’m a Mac man! My personal media 100 at home is a Mac (and I’ve got 3 more around the house!)
Like many of you, I’d love to see “Elise” finished (though bootlegs have been floating around) officially and you are right about the hardware issue. Will it happen? Only if there is a demand and there was not alot of resonse from many 844X users when the ex-engineers tried to do something a few months back. I wish that had happened too!
BorisFX is a software company so I have some concerns about the future of 844 & even “iHD” as it stands today. Now that the software is (or soon to be) 100% free of the M100 hardware, my first thoughts are, “will the hardware go away completely?” “Will we be using Media 100 with Kona and BlackMagic cards for capture in the future?”
Maybe…would that be bad? Not really except for those who bought into 844 and the promises of HD (we have 2.)
Future?
I will say this, I can finally rest in the fact that the Media 100 product at least lies in good hands and we can all hope that they live up to a great legacy and continute down the right path, continue development (hard and soft), keep a great product going and perhaps help some users have some closure.

Unlikely but nice to dream 🙂I believe the final touches to the press releases are just days away. Then we can all
re-focus on the job at hand.BorisFx please give us a real road map of where M100 will be pointed

September 16, 2005 at 2:00 pmAnne,
Does the upgrade to FEC 4.02 still have the PACE licensing system?
Best,

September 16, 2005 at 7:09 pmBeginning with verison 4.02 FEC no longer uses PACE licensing. We now offer our own streamlined cross-platform installers and licensing, including an easy-to-use electronic software download (ESD).
Thanks,

I would wait and see
my gut feeling, Boris will not buy 844/X as that is gone and will buy only the HD mac hardware and leave it as an “as is product”. not even the old p6000. maybe some tweeks with software and free plug-ins but no rt hardware effects on the boards.
Im sure they are getting it for nearly nothing anyway

I doubt there will be a big difference in buying HD only and buying the whole Media 100 range, since I have the feeling Optibase will be happy to find a new home for them.
