My suggestion is to start by processing your track thru Levelator from The Conversations Network.

It does absolute wonders to audio, especially speech. I’ve been using it for many years and each time with great results. Plus, it’s FREE ! No strings attached.

Just make sure that the file you’re dropping in Levelator is either in .WAV or .AIFF. You can use the free software Audacity, for example, to prep your file before dropping it in Levelator. There are numerous tutorial on Youtube on how to use Levelator although it is very user friendly.

Levelator will automatically save your file to the same place as your original file with the word ”output” added to your original file name. Once you have it normalized, it’s just a matter of adjusting it to the proper level in Vegas.

Hi Fabien

First off, the Preview window is just what it says, it’s just a preview. When you get around to render, you will get something that will look like what you have with Best. If you want to keep the original pixalated look, that would be another ball game.

About the original stretched pixel problem, was the skeleton a screen capture from the video ?

Not quite sure what you want to achieve but for starters, make sure that ALL of your clips are the of the same frame size (ex.: 1280 X 1080 or other). I also notice that you are working with the DRAFT setting in your preview. That will give you a view with a lot of pixels. If you can, set your Preview window to Best(Full).

Let us know what happens and if improved anything and to what extent.

Thx for the offer but I use my XH-A1 mostly for cut away shots and record on a HVR-MRC1. It has served me well in the past and still does but to a much lesser extent.

Sorry about the late reply, I was out of the country. It may not be just about updating the GPU. Different things will affect all of the components at various degree depending on what you do. Also, you are trying to work with 4K files with a version of the software that was not designed for it. (And I suspect that your comp is under-powered to). If you are more than an occasional/part-time/only on alternate Wednesday editor, you may want to look at upgrading your hardware and your software. Once you’ve upgraded your software, I suggest that you download a trial version first. Once you’re happy with the testing, go ahead and purchase. (Sometimes, you can get the version prior to the latest for less on some reseller’s web sites. If you don’t need DVD Architect, just get the Edit version (Google is your friend) Stay away from the pirated versions !!! What I personally did was to enlist the help of a couple of my buddies and installed the trial version on their computers that all had different configurations. That helped me narrow my search when choosing the different parts when I built mine. You don’t need to spend a gazillion gold coins on hardware. It all depends on what your needs are. Foe example, my configuration works for what I do. It may not for you.

Instead of using the Track Motion feature (it will adversely affect the final result) after importing your clip in the timeline, right click in the Preview Window and select as per pic below.

Are you sure that it’s Vegas dropping the frames and not the actual camcorder ?

Here are few questions for you;

1- Are you recording on tape or a frame store device (hvr-mrc1, Firestore, etc…) ?

2- Are you feeding from the frame store device via IEEE or are you transferring via CF card?

3- If on tape, are you playing back directly from the camera or do you have a separate player ? Are you keeping track of how many passes have been made on your tapes ?

4- How often do you clean your heads on your camera ? Do you use a cleaning tape or do you do it manually ?

5- Are you using the built-in Vegas capture utility or something else ?

I will presume that it’s from older stock and was recorded at 640 X 480. That means that when you make it larger the quality and definition will drop. You can’t have HD quality if you don’t start with original HD material. You will be able to make it look better by using different plug-ins, Neat Video for example would help make it look less grainy.
