  • Vegas Effects / Vegas Post – List of plugins/functions?

    Hi there,

I recently discovered that Magix has released new After Effects-like software called “Vegas Post” which also has a “Vegas Effects” workflow.

    https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-post/vegas-effects/

“Take control of a vast array of high-quality effects, presets, and correction tools for endless creative possibilities. Over 800 effects and filters to tweak, combine, pull apart, and put back together.”

From the website, it looks like this includes particle fx, 3D modeling, 3D space tracking, fire & lightning, muzzle flashes, and more.

I work primarily in Vegas 14 and am in the market for these kinds of effects, but for the life of me, I cannot find a comprehensive list of what’s included in the package, nor any reviews or demonstrations of how these VFX tools plug into Vegas.

    So my questions:

  • Is anyone using these? How are they? (I’m specifically looking for particle FX, flames, sparks, lightning, and other “energy” FX)
  • Will this work with Vegas 14? Or would I have to upgrade to a higher version?
  • Can I buy the VFX separately, or do I buy the entire “post” suite?
  • How’s the workflow? I’m pretty fluent with Vegas keyframing, animation, and compositing. If it builds on those existing workflows, I’ll be in good shape.
  • Sorry to ask these questions here, but I can’t find any of this information from Magix.com, nor YouTube, which is rather puzzling. Thanks!

      Hi Matt

You may want to try the free version of Hitfilm. There is a free version. the neat thing about it is that you can also purchase options separately. It will integrate very well with Vegas. Have a try.

Oh fantastic, this will definitely do the trick, and it looks like there are optional plugins that are precisely what I’m looking for.

Downloading now but won’t get to tinker until tonight. Can it be operated within the Vegas environment?

Or would (should?) I create VFX in a standalone application and then export them as transparent MOVs?

      Hi Matt

After installing Hitfilm and restarting Vegas, you will see in your FX options that a series of Ignite plug-ins were added to your Vegas. These are just a few.

Typing this hitfilm vegas integration in Google will give you a hole bunch of info and tutorials.

      Cheers !

      Thanks so much!

I’ve installed HitFilm and even restarted my computer, but the new effects don’t show up in Vegas.

I’m running Vegas 14, so hopefully that’s not a compatibility issue?

      Hi Matt

I checked with my Vegas Pro V14 and the plug-ins are there, the look in the panel is different but they are present. In version 14, you have to open the folders to see the various plug-ins.

      Under: Tools/Video/Video Track FX…

And in the Video FX panel:

Thank you so much for the reply, Francois! I really appreciate your help. This product will be perfect for my project if I can just get it working.

I’ve combed through every plugin folder and they’re just not there. Here’s what I’m seeing:

      https://imgur.com/a/RnmUmah

(note, I do have a HitFilm folder which contains 7 old HitFilms FX I acquired long ago, and are unrelated to HitFilm Express)

Additionally, when I click on an event on the timeline, there’s no option in the dialogue box to “Add HitFilm FX” which seems to be another way to access them, based on what I’m seeing across the web.

So this feels to me like HitFilm and Vegas aren’t seeing each other. I also noted there was no checkbox in the HitFilm installer to tell HF to integrate with Vegas, as it sounds like that was a thing in previous iterations.

I’ll head over to the HitFilm forums next, but if anything else comes to mind, I’ll take your advice! Thanks again.

I did! I’ve checked every folder, no luck.

I’ve come to realize that the latest version of Hitfilm Express only works with Vegas 15 and above.

I was able to download a version of HitFilm Express 2017, which DOES have Vegas 14 integration. Even the install package specifically has the option.

However, I can’t seem to get that talking to Vegas either….

Going to ping their support forums next to see what’s possible.
