I don’t know why you ran into this problem. I can transcode files thru L&T w/o hassle in FCP7. Try 5DtoRGB and don’t forget to copy .THM files. It works just fine as well.

I meant camera, though it’s kind of hard to find cheap one on market since they’re discontinued long time ago. If you’re looking for a deck buy pro level sony, it’ll work with all tapes.

Take a look at panasonic – it usually playbacks fine tapes from sony or canon. Test your tapes before purchasing.

Yep, by default FCP creates new clip every time it detects start/stop point on HDV tape.

Make sure sequence settings match those of video clip. It seems that your master sequence has HD settings while the nested ones have SD settings. Nested sequences are not prompted to be conformed to the one you’re adding them to.

What’s with the fans? If temperature reaches threshold they’ll blast at full speed. If that’s your case you need to vacuum clean inside the chassis. Otherwise look for software related issues. BTW, storage temperature is the one for mac turned off. If it’s on, refer to operating temperature. In either case these numbers are pessimistic assessment. You still have safe room to go in both directions.

Since FCP7 is 32-bit application it can’t utilize more than 4 GB of RAM. To add insult to injury, it uses around 2.5 GB because 1.5 GB are being used by FCS mainframe. This is how you end up being out of memory. When face out-of-memory error, simply re-launch FCP. As the last resort, reboot.

If you’re happened to have Adobe AF, Premiere, or Flash you can utilize Media Encoder. It’s well known for loading all cpu cores up to 100%. I don’t think Toast is a good route to convert files.

From the top of my head, install QT 7 from MAC OS installation disk (in optional installs). You might also want to instal VLC and perian components for comfortable life.
