Good call. That was the problem. Thanks.

July 28, 2009 at 8:08 pm in reply to: Compressor alternative

I am using quickcluster actually, on a Quad Core (2 x 3GHz Dual Core) MacPro. Really the only issue that I’m having with Compressor is when it comes to de-interlacing footage…besides that it works okay. I use the frame controls, set the de-interlace to “Best”, then it takes it a very long time to chew through, and half the time the end product looks like a bad de-interlace. I also check to make sure that Compressor is interpreting the source files fields correctly before hand. I’ve also had issues interlacing progressive footage with Compressor. It just seems to me that anything having to do with upper/lower/progressive changes, Compressor falls short.

I’m running CS3, and after I installed the Adobe Plug-ins, I couldn’t get AfterEffects to play back rendered RAM previews in real time. I had to uninstall the Adobe Plug-ins to get AE working again. You should be able to look at RAM previews over your AJA output without the plug-ins anyway.

August 6, 2007 at 7:20 pm in reply to: 6.4 driver killed my Multibridge

I’m running a Multibridge Pro and when I upgraded from 6.2 to 6.3 all my Uncompressed projects would crash on playback. Nothing I could do would allow me to go back and undo the firmware “upgrade” that was then ruining my life. But I just upgraded to 6.4 and magically everything is back to normal. Your problem might have occured because the 6.4 drivers have fixes for things in the 6.3 drivers and you just skipped a step. Can you contact BMD direct and see if they can send you some drivers to patch your system?

How do you change the ProRes from 8bit to 10bit?

Point well taken; the effects handling switch didn’t solve the problem anyway. But, the issue definately isn’t FCS2; my issues started before I installed FCS2. The problem undeniably began when I installed Multibridge 6.2, so if anything, people should be wary and create a clone of their boot drive before trying 6.2.

I had trouble finding it too.

    -Good luck

  • I’m running an Intel MacPro 3GHZ, 5GB RAM, off a 140mbps RAID to do Uncompressed SD. I’ve been having similar problems with my Multibridge…only I started having problems BEFORE final cut 6. I upgraded to the 6.2 drivers before getting FCS2 in the mail. The first thing I noticed was dropped frames when playing back rendered BM 10bit or 8bit timelines (whether I had external video on or off). Annoying! So I figured that maybe it had something to do with installing BM 6.2 before FCS2. So, I uninstalled 6.2 and re-installed 6.1, then final cut just crashed everytime I tried playing back a 8 or 10 bit sequence.
Later, after installing FCS2 and re-installing 6.2 drivers, guess what: final cut still crashes on playback of 8 and 10 bit.
So I was glad to find the post above: finally an answer!
    Nope.
After changing the effects handling for 8 and 10 bit to “None” it still didn’t end my final cut crashes.
    Any other suggestions anyone?
Is it possible that the rumored Decklink 2GB barrier bug has infiltrated all the 6.2 drivers?

  • Is there any chance that a similar issue could arise from a 3gb eSATA PCIe card combined with a MB? My machine (oddly enough) has the exact same specs as yours, and our MB crashes our machine when playing back BM 10 or 8 bit timelines.
