My experience with DV being captured via firewire is that the footage ends up with a lot of digital noise that you don’t notice until you do something like keying. The noise will prevent you from getting good edges. I’ve been coming in 8 or 10 bit via component on a blackmagic multibridge, and it smooths out all the noise.
