When you drop the clip into the FCP timeline, it will render to the codec you have the timeline set to.

Still, all you have to do is connect the HD to the Mac. Use Disk Utility, select the HD in your list of drives connected, Hit ERASE, select the format you want and it will wipe the drive and reformat.

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand this??
First, you can’t download footage off a Varicam directly onto a Hard drive. You have to go though a computer I/O card like a Kona or Black magic. The camera cannot directly connect to a HD.
Second, when the HD is connected to the computer, all you need to do is Erase and reformat the HD using the Apple Disk Utility software or some other program you use. The drive is completely wiped clean and reformatted and ready to use again.
This is very simple.

I have two of the Dells. They are great for editing, but not good enough for color correction, you really need a standalone Pro monitor for accurate color grading.

I have never be able to get it do that on my FCP system. But, I’d like to know if this is possible too!! Yes, it works nicely with HDV ingest, but doesn’t work with HD-SDI or Firewire input with tapes from my HDX-900.

In the menu, you can change the shutter settings. You can make one of the settings HALF. (Which is 1/48) This will make shooting at 24fps similar to the way a film camera operates. In a film camera, the shutter rotates and is only open 1/48 of a sec when shooting at 24fps.
This will tighten up the motion blur you get when shooting at that frame rate.
Here’s how to get to the menu.
MAIN MENU (Not the USER MENUT) This is 2nd, deeper menu you get, when you hold down the front menu button for 4-5 sec)
Scroll down to OPERATION, Enter that, then scroll down to SHUTTER SELECT, Enter that and change one of the 6 presets to HALF.That’s it. Then when you turn on the shutter, you can click through the 6 presets and one will be HALF. Use that when shooting at 24 or 30fps for a cleaner, less blurry look.

Use the shutter set to ‘Half’. The shutter helps with the motion blur. (That is normally how to get the 24fps look to be more accurate) The only other option is to suggest shooting at 30fps instead of 24. You get most of the filmlook, but quite a bit less blur.
