Still struggling with importing Canon 7D footage. I have the plugin, connecting camera to Mac, and know you have to go to the root folder and bring all your files in — not just the *.mov files. But in Log & Transfer, it doesn’t see my camera. So I bring the footage over on to my Mac, and seems there are only *.mov files. And then I can’t get Log & Transfer to recognize the root folder — no thumbnails come up.

I’m really not this dopey…..what am I doing wrong?

This is a straight forward process IF you do it the right way with the right gear.

Have you loaded the Canon Software?

Then you do not hook the camera up to the computer, you get a card reader, you transfer everything in the DCIM Folder (including that folder) into a new folder on the HD, you put every card into a different folder. So you have YOUR FOLDER/DCIM/100CANON/files .mov and .THM.

In L&T you go to the DCIM folder and everything should be there.

It is a good idea to make your folder a descriptive name since this will be used by FCP as the REEL name.

Even easier is to make a disk image of the card onto your hard drive.

I use the make a Disk Image method on location and copy to an external hard drive.

The Canon Plugin works on my MacPro with OS 10.5.8 in FCP7.

It does not work on my MacBook OS 10.5.8 with FCP 6 fully updated.

I’m doing exactly the same thing on both systems, FCP 6 on the MacBook gives me an incorrect file structure message.

Are the other people (there’s been a few posts on various forums) having this problem only on FCP 6?

If the plugin does not work, you can use this to get TC on your QT’s.
    https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/42/qtchange/2

Then transcode any way you like.
(Or, transcode first, keep the name start the same, keep the .THM and add TC afterwards)

If you copy on location to harddisk, you might want to use this:
    https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/15/offloader/2

It transcodes for you, and adds TC, and makes a backup from the originals as well.

I think the problem is using the camera. I had to got a card reader to make it work.

I just got around to upgrading FCP6 to 7 on my MacBook.

The Canon Movie Plugin works fine now. Nothing else changed.
