  • Motion jpeg A codec in FCP

    Hi

I am redering a file (.mov) 1920 x 1080 23,96fps in my Vegas Pro 9 software in order to play it back in an apple machine with FCP conected with a HDCAM Recorder.

The guy in the finishing house told me that they work with prores 422 codec.

The question is: Does FCP will read motion jpeg A???

    Thanks and regards.

Motion Jpeg A is not a realtime codec in FCP nor is it a good choice, as it is a “lossy” codec. Standard Motion JPEG (not A) at 75% is a good lossless codec, though it too is not a realtime codec in FCP.

    Tks.
    I have only Mjpg A or B….
It seems to me I will have to try and see if it works.
Can FCP re-render this format to respro or any other??
    Regards

When you drop the clip into the FCP timeline, it will render to the codec you have the timeline set to.

    Legacy codecs are READ ONLY.
You can not export to those codecs any more with just QT Pro.
You need to export to any other codec.
Coming from good quality MPEJ stuff (8b/422YUV), rendering to Prores in “High Precision” would be a good workflow.
