Well, actually, FCPX has some amazing features that AVID and Premier doesn’t have. So, if they just add back in the old stuff we need and maybe even add even more features, then we might actually be ahead in the game. Big ‘If’ I know. I just won’t justify the hardware change to AVID and can’t even say the phrase to clients… “I edit on Premier.”

Go ahead, you first. I’m stickin’ with FCP7. My bet is Apple reworks FCPX and incorporates all the things we had in FCP7.

June 27, 2011 at 4:15 pm in reply to: DVCPROHD and XDCAM green screen shoot – keying issuesIt’s definitely not the DVCProHD codec. I shoot an Panny HDX900 and do a ton of green-screen that looks great – no issues at all. So, it might be his camera adding the noise or something in your workflow.
Are you editing in the DVCProHD codec and not the Sony XDCam codec?

I just wish I knew WTF they were thinking??? This can’t compete with AVID or Premier. It’s more like just a new version of iMovie. Ouch. I know, but it’s not a Pro app like FCP7 in any shape or form.We need FCP8!!!

Apple ‘Jumped the Shark’ with this version of FCP. We’re all in deep trouble.

Most other Pros on the forum would agree that to accurately color correct and monitor video you need an output card such as an AJA Kona or Blackmagic etc and feed your signal to a true, broadcast monitor like a TV Logic, Flanders, Sony broadcast etc. Sure, not everyone does that, but that’s the only way to trust what you are adjusting. To just view your timeline on a TV set could lead to not seeing what you are actually adjusting. There are issues like interlacing, color balance, alising etc, that don’t show accurately on computer monitors or TV sets. Just saying.

If you are just using it for mac monitors, Dells are great. I have two. But, not for color grading, you need a high-end professional grade monitor and output card for that.

Paul, report back if it works. I’d like to know if that issue was just me.

I’m transferring 5D files right now. I had a bit of the same problem. I noticed that if I did anything else in FCP while importing (Like look at another clip I just transferred) it would chop off the clip that was currently being imported. So, now I just let it do it’s thing without interuption. Worth a try.
