I shoot all different formats for different clients. The Nano just takes what the camera outputs over HD-SDI. But, it improves the recording over DVCProHD. The Nano can record at a higher bitrate. DVCPro is 100Mbps. The Nano can go much higher to 280Mbps. I tend to shoot 1080i for a lot of things at 180Mbps. It’s been flawless for me. Not one drop out or error yet. The only thing I wish it had was a T/C windowburn on the Nano out as I don’t run tape with it and the T/C is internally generated by the Nano. It would be nice to have that for my clients to see.

No issues like that with my HDX900. Really sounds like a bad record head. I remember having isolated tape dropouts on Beta tapes back in the day due to dirt/dust clogging a head.
OT: Have you considered switching to record on a NanoFlash? I’ve gone away from tape to completely tape-less, couldn’t be happier.

I’ve been using a NANO Flash since they came out. Works great-best investment I’ve made! I’ve extended the life of my Panny camera.

If it’s not too long a clip, you could also go in a duplicate some frames randomly to give it more of an analog, less exact strobe effect.

Here’s a good tutorial:

It’s exactly the same reason many of us are hesitant to go back to AVID. We’ve all had really bad experiences and don’t want to give them more of our money. It’s a lot of why so many of us went to FCP!

It’ll take a little while for stuck up agency people to learn about FCPX. I’m not sure why Premier got stuck with such a bum rap, especially since AE and PS are so highly rated.

I was speaking about rendering inside FCP being faster in 64-bit. Hey, don’t get me wrong I’m no fanboy of FCPX. I think it sucks and is far from being ready for anything Primetime. But, I’m willing to give it a try for some very simple internal projects. Thanks why I’m keeping FCP7 on a partition and working with that for ALL my clients projects. I just don’t want to switch right now and buy new hardware.

Maybe this will help us all. I’ve just bought a new 2TB system drive and will partition it into 3 for OSXSnow/FCP7, OSXSnow/FCPX and OSXLion/FCPX, like David Roth suggests. This way I can work easily without worry for quite a while.

FCPX adds 64-bit speed which is HUGE.
