Sounds like the Smartboard is running at an odd frequency (not 60hz) like an old CRT computer monitor. You can use the HDX’s shutter and dial in the frequency and make the flicker go away.
1st, make sure you have Synchro Scan turned ON in the Menu section. Then, switch on the shutter at the front of the camera under the little cover, click around the settings to select SS and using the 2 buttons near the top side of the camera labeled Synchro Scan, you can fine adjust the shutter rate up or down to sync with the screen and remove the flicker.

Thanks you guys! I just ordered the Matrox CompressHD card. That should help speed up my h264 work. I’ll wait on the computer to see what happens in future.

I just remember going though exactly what you described. I use an separate program like ‘Episode’ that can quickly convert files to other formats. There’s many different programs that can do this. Also, it’s the type of files. MP3’s are horrible inside Final Cut Pro. So, I always convert them to AIFF at 48K (same as timeline rate).
Glad I could help.

Make sure your music matches your timeline’s audio specs. They have to match. If you have audio elements that are 44K or MP3 etc. and your timeline is 48K, this is exactly what will happen, things will get out of sync.
What you need to do is convert all your audio elements to the same settings.

December 31, 2012 at 2:02 pm in reply to: flash transition used on History Channel “Mankind, the story of all of us”I use a plug-in called Nattress Film Effects “G Film Flash” Comes in a $100 package, I would pay $100 for this effect alone. Does a great flash effect and also adds an optional film speed control like shooting real film where when you stop or start a camera, the frame rate changes.

Try taking the clips into Apple Soundtrack Pro. (You already have it. It comes with the Final Cut suite) It does a good job of reducing noise.

I just drop the clips on a FCP timeline, add the TC reader efx and export a QT movie in a small size for them. Simple.

I half disagree with Chris. I really do use the stereo effect you get with Nat sound on shots, especially cars passing by or people walking/talking. I’m mainly a one-man band and don’t get the luxury of a sound-man most of the time, and especially one with a dedicated stereo boom rig.
Is it a must have… Absolutely not. Nice to have, heck yeah, it’s totally useable.

JR,
I have the original NANO. I just mount the unit on a cold-shoe that goes on the top front of the handle. It has a ball adjust so I can rotate it for easy viewing. I have short cables for power off my D-tap on the Anton mount and video from the HD-SDI out jack. Very clean setup. Sure, it won’t go inside my Portabrace bag with the Nano on top, but that’s not a deal-breaker for me to mount it and remove it. I just like having it right by my eyes to see what it’s doing and to hit record. One other caveat is, you have to hit record on the Nano when you are NOT running tape with it. The record button on the camera will not start the Nano unless you run tape. That’s why I like it close and easy to hit record.
Check out this site for mounts, cables and parts, they have it all.
