April 12, 2014 at 1:11 pm in reply to: FCP7 occasionally losing AV sync under Mavericks – any fixes?I’ve read a few posts that FCP7 and Maverick is not good. I’m in the same boat, I have some software that wants Maverick but, I’m a “Get off my Lawn” guy and not leaving FCP7. So, my fix was get a 2nd computer just for Maverick and those programs. A little more work, but safer.

Try downloading the Canon plug-in for a newer Mac OSX than you have. I am still running 10.7 with FCP7 and had to use the 10.8 plug-in. That worked for me.

One way is… Create the scroll over black, save as a movie. Then, import that movie and make a Freeze Frame of the position you want to start. Find the match and then edit to make it start rolling. Export that as a movie. Import that again and key it over your video.
I would build it in AfterEffects, but that’s me as you can then give it a smooth start and not an abrupt start.

Am I the only one who uses separate folders on my RAID for each project? I find it easier to keep all the project media files (Footage, Graphics, AE Renders, etc) for each project in one discrete folder. Much easier to archive the entire folder after for each project. I sometimes have 10-15 projects going at one time.
Am I missing something? Or is there a better way to organize?
Thanks!

Shane,
I’m not lazy – trust me. Of course on a new project, you have to enter settings. That’s not my issue!
It doesn’t save the Drive location with the saved project. When I open an existing project, it doesn’t save that. FCP just retains the drive location from the current project, not the existing project. I can’t find where to change that to remember the drive.

This tutorial should help with settings. (Slightly dated, but still good info)

June 29, 2013 at 11:34 pm in reply to: Exporting long H.264 sequences from FCP7, any tips?Slightly OT, but, I recently picked up the Matrox CompressHD card for my Mac tower. Incredible speed increase (like 4x faster, about real-time) on H264 encoding vs. the normal Compressor. Well worth the $500. in time savings alone! Just passing it along. I was glad someone told me about it.

I have a Prompter People “Flex” prompter. Been extremely happy with it – solid and works great. I did buy a nice Pelican case for it for traveling. I got it all into the case and still under 50lbs.

I’ve got a Nano too. But, some clients still want tape – go figure. I’ve got both covered. The Convergence folks are awesome and they are right here in Colorado by me. I’m on the list to get their new Odeyssey7 OLED monitor.

You’re welcome! My HDX900 gets a lot of work. ESPN still wants 720p and I’m ready to serve!
