I’m stumped on how to make my scrolling text start as static in the middle of the frame before it begins its scroll. See this video, 0:12 mark.

One way is… Create the scroll over black, save as a movie. Then, import that movie and make a Freeze Frame of the position you want to start. Find the match and then edit to make it start rolling. Export that as a movie. Import that again and key it over your video.

I would build it in AfterEffects, but that’s me as you can then give it a smooth start and not an abrupt start.

If you have Photoshop, just make the roll there. Import it as a still and just use key frames to animate it in FCP. Very quick and easy.

Starting it from a freeze frame works, but isn’t elegant. The Boris type tools in that same location are superior, and better yet, is making the credit roll in Apple Motion, which can easily make very nice text rolls and crawls with acceleration and deceleration.
