I have both the Kona3 and a IoLA installed. The Kona3 works flawlessly for me. But the IoLA loses Firewire handshaking once in a while.
Anyone have the same issue?

With current equipment, there’s no ‘harm’ that can come from turning your gear on in the wrong order. The only problem is you might lose communication with the decks and/or the drives won’t show up on your desktop.
Drives/RAID & Decks, then Mac and then anything else. That’s pretty much the order.
Do the opposite shutting down. Drives last.

They’re in Main Menu: Paint: Gamma: Gamma Mode Select. The Main menu is the one when you hold the button in for approx 4 sec. Not the 1 sec push user menu.

You could ‘old school’. Get a black card and spray white paint on it. Then use the video as a key. I’ve done crazier things that work!

What also irks me is every new Mac also requires different type RAM. Which is now getting ridiculously expensive!

I’ve asked this question before, but no one seems to be able to explain what the benefit of a better video card is? Will a 1900XT card give me faster renders of EFX as it takes the burden off my Intel Pro’s 4 core processor with 7GB RAM?
Then, I read your post and it says it slows down when it gets full. Please explain what exactly slows down and what causes it to get full?
Does anybody have a link to a good explanation of what are the improvements gained by upgrading to a 1900 card?

gnomebard,
The ATI Radeon X1900 XT card is getting horrible reviews. How are you guys getting good results? Almost every customer comment below says they lock-up and have to be replaced about every 6 months!!

Walter,
Which ATI 1900 card are you using? I just checked the ATI site and they make no mention of the Intel Macs being compatible?

Tell us what your not thrilled about? Could it be the settings on your 900? Anyone can easily make the camera look bad by tweeking the parameters. Noisy, bad color, sharpness etc. I’ve seen footage shot by other guys on a Varicam that looked horrible. I agree with Walter, so far, my 900 and editing at DVCProHD looks excellent. The codec doesn’t sound like your problem.

Could you please explain (briefly) why a monitor video card has anything to do with number crunching of the processers for a motion or color effect?
I would understand how a monitor card would possibly put up nicer images on the computer monitors, but not how it would effect the speed of processor calculations on an effect render?
