I had this happen too. I shot some footage for a client and he didn’t know that older DVCProHD decks would not play the 9micron tapes. He was freakin’ out that all the tapes were bad. Always wise to check when you shoot for clients not familiar with the differences.

Yes, the 900’s tapes will play on a 1200 and the 900 can only use Medium size cassettes.

The other positive to shoot in HD and deliver in SD is you can easily re-frame shots or do moves on shots that you might not have done and would like to do now. With the extra frame size, you have more options.

It looks like she was shot on Green screen. Then inside the matte, a simple soft wipe up from the bottom with some stock smoke footage. Nothing too hard really.

I keep all my media files on one large 5 Drive SATA II RAID. I’m only doing Uncompressed SD and DVCProHD. All media files run fine from one fast RAID. Graphics, Music, Video all on the same RAID.
If I was to get into Uncompressed HD, then SATA wouldn’t quite be fast enough. You really would need a Fiber Channel Xserve RAID or equivalent to run smoothly.
I also don’t fill my RAID up full. That really slows down the transfer speed.

You didn’t mention if you are doing SD or HD. Do you need all 7 SATA II drives striped together for speed? if not, maybe consider seperating them into 4x & 3x RAIDS.
For safety, I just use a couple of FW drives for backup. Copy the media files to them for safety at the end of the day.

I’ve heard of this happening too. One of my buddies at a corporate video dept had this happen with camera. They just stopped using their Modulus. I’ve not had trouble with my unit. It might be positioning.
Have you also tried different channels to see if it’s a certain frequency?

I have a B/U Firewire 800 drive plugged in, but not turned on during editing. Could that be the conflict?
