Could it be a VITC vs. LTC issue? Did you try switching the deck to read the other?

I use the Dell 2407 along with my Apple 30″. The Dell looks great and there’s no issues hooking it up. The Dell also gives you analog inputs for Component, S and Composite. Nice to have too.

Never heard of a ‘plug-in’ that recreates that. Why not just build one yourself in AE?

Another thing to consider is bringing along a 220v-to-110v transformer. (Not a cheapo travel one) but a heavy-duty one. They’re perfect for all kinds of other equipment. I use it for my 9″ Sony monitor, charging cell phones, ipods etc. It weighs about 10 lbs, but it works great and I wouldn’t travel with one now.

Bring some extra fuses for the charger also, just to be safe.

They are standard DVCPro tapes. The 900 only uses the Medium size cassettes. Nothing special. I don’t think they are looking hard enough.

Yes, you get a SD down-converted output. It can be set to either letterbox or cropped.

I use a Panasonic DVD stand-alone burner. It works OK for quick window burns or one-offs of an edit for quick client approval. The one I have also has an HDD drive in it, which is nice for saving things for additional client dubs.
The quality is good, but Compressor/DVD studio pro is better as it also gives you ways to create professional looking menus vs. the Panny which is basic text.
