What advantages does a better video card give you? I’m using the stock GeForce 7300GT card that came with my Intel Quad 2.66. I have the Apple 30″ and a Dell 2407 monitors.
FCP6 runs fine on that cheap, stock video card. Is it just that you can run 2×30’s with the other cards?

To answer the question of 1080i vs. 720. I feel recording in progressive looks smoother on motion. Especially if you record at 60fps. You get amazing slo-mo in post.
With NLE’s. One thing is storage space. Shooting at 720/30 vs. 720/60 takes up about half the storage space.

It sounds like you need quite a bit of info to completely understand the differences between 1080i, 720p 25fps vs. 60 etc.
First off is frame size. 1080i vs. 720p. One is not ‘better’ than another. What is the delivery of your video? Format should be decided by how you will edit and deliver.
Second is frame rate. You must be in a PAL county as you mention 25fps. That is native for some countries vs. 24 for the US. Now, shooting at 25fps will give you a film-like motion blur vs. 60fps for a vivid ‘video look’.
Third, the HDX900 has quite a range of adjustments including color and Gamma for different contrast ‘looks’. But I think that might be getting way over your knowledge at the moment.

Ahhhh, we all have had blond moments. Here’s mine. I was having audio issues on one channel of my Betacam. So, I sent the camera in for repair and told the guy Channel one was lower in volume and I coundn’t get it match Channel 2.
Well, as many of you guessed already, I had the viewfinder vol control turned down and forgot about it. Duh!

Good point. I only use the Sonnet Fusion 500’s with the E4P card. They might be more compatible with each other. And I use SoftRaid.

Funny that you posted this thread. I was watching some old 3/4″ tapes from 1977 last night. I was amazed they still looked good! My wife and I laughed so hard at how bad the content was.
We decided to have a party and invite all our media friends over. But everyone has to bring the absolute ‘worst’ thing they’ve done. This should be pretty damn fun!
