What’s of concern is that the Feds allow you to travel with:
– Passengers are allowed an unlimited number batteries whose equivalent lithium content per battery is less than 8 gr.
– Each passenger can also carry no more than two lithium-ion batteries that contain more than 8 gr. of equivalent lithium content per battery.
They don’t seem that concerned as to completely ban them.

Man, this is a tough questions!
relating to Leo’s post aboove about renting batteries at the shoot locations, I travel to some of the most god-forsaken remote locations (Artic circle, Rainforests etc) There’s no way to rent batteries at those places.
Somehow, I don’t believe national news crews don’t carry batteries on Airforce one when they do press tours?
Anybody got other ideas?

I went with the Fuji 4.5×13. Wide is the only way to go. I use the wider end 90% of the time. I get asked for that lens more than anything. glad I got it!

If you are only working with 300GB of storage, then I would consider a couple of FW drives. They are so darn cheap now, you could save all the media for an entire project on one drive. 500G FW drives are about $200 each!
Buy a couple and use one for each client or project.

I came from M100 too. I haven’t looked back at all. I couldn’t be happier. The workflow was very similar. The move is much easier than say, from AVID to FCP. And now, I’m doing things I never dreamed of before.

Dropped frames are almost always due to your drives. Either they are not fast enough or too full to pull the data off.
You mention a 500G external drive. Give us more info. Is it a single 500G drive, Multiple raid, FW, SATA etc. And what codec’s are you using?

That still doesn’t solve a fire problem with even one battery that is allowed by law. If it goes up if flames, that is a serious problem.
So… what do you suggest to us who travel weekly on airlines for shoots? Even shipping them by UPS or FedEx still has the potential for fire.

I’ve been traveling extensively in the US and internationally with Lithium batteries. I’ve not heard one complaint from an airline or TSA yet. They are totally clue-less to what their doing.

Walter,
What size do you render out AE when using the Animtion code for alpha encoded graphics? Or do you use a different codec for that?
