For some its other apps that require a newer OS.
For me I usually stay at the lowest possible one.
For home I have a 2013 Mac Pro running Monterey.
The only version I am able to use is 2018.x
That was the case last year but something broke and now I cant run it.
I use a dongle so I think that might be the reason.
So far no clients require me to edit in Avid so Im not worried…for now.

I still keep a 2009 Mac Pro cheese grater for Final Cut 7 and firewire ingest.
I had some luck with an older Black Magic Ultra 4K IO using a firewire to thunderbolt converter to a 2013 Mac Pro a few years ago.
It took a lot of work for a few minutes of footage.
Now that Im all up to date, chances are it wont work anymore 🙁 -
I have own (personally) a few REDs. My current is a Dragon 6K.
I love shooting at 48fps and my go too for action/dramatic cine shots is 96fps.
For ND I use mostly 4×6 on a few diff matte boxes depending on the project.
I shoot a lot of shorts, indies, music, and had my time in full length.
But that’s my home life 🙂
At work its a lot of corporate frames e.g. talking heads, meetings, feel good etc… but we also do product shots with some action.
Product shots are mostly Canon 5D MKIV for the simplicity (gimbal, rotating tables, etc…).
But we also use two Panasonic EVA-1s for motion (as well as the boring talking heads stuff) and the best we got out of that is 48fps.
We want to get into mimicking the Phantom with some of the product shoots e.g. water, more water and heck even more water 😉
We are now leaning towards the Sony FX6 due to the internal NDs.
We need that for the corp stuff and chasing a CEO through hallways and into an uncontrolled lighting area, the int ND as well as the AF would keep me from quitting the day job LOL!

Found some online reviews and its not hitting the mark for my day jobs needs.
The frame rates is an issue for us as well as the internal NDs.

I’ve had some tricky ones like this and did it in Resolve to avoid losing more hair.

On this topic, frame io just released info on v4.
Very promising, but as usual, will it be buggy.
Only time will tell.

Keep in mind Avid just sent out an email about changes in their pricing.
No idea what it is, we only pay for ProTools support now.
We gave up on Avid years ago and Im stuck with a non working 2018 dongle/license 😛
