I believe the issues is only with the Media Composer First versions.

Since its a “free” version they dont want you to elevate the projects to the upper MC versions.

Which version did you install?
I was asking the same about MC First and I found out you cant open any bins in any other MC version.

On this topic, anyone use the supplied ProRes from the R3D folders as proxy then do the switch in Avid?

I am confident I can do this in other NLEs but never had the chance with Avid.

Also, I am stuck at MC 2018 and would need the client to supply me their license if they wish to use Avid as NLE for this assembly.

At work I just received the latest M2 MAX loaded with 192GB RAM.

So far its spunky and love the local drive 6800 plus speed (up/down avg) in Black Magic Disk Speed 🙂

No so happy with the OWC ThunderBay RAID dropping to under 500 using the Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 converter cables. I did test other peripherals using that converter cable and so far as good. The bonus is that our Avid DNxIO works on it with the proper drivers.

I will be putting it to the test next week as far as Pro Tools capability.

We have a PCIe rack for the Pro Tools HDX cards and not sure if it will work with same converter cable.

It will be pitted against a 2019 Mac Pro 3.5 GHZ 8-Core Intel Xeon W 96GB RAM.

I am hoping this M2 MAX will work.

But for myself I am waiting on the updates and wondering if WWDC will have that.

If there is any hint of the same characters in the Hi res file, you can use an app to remove/add characters and see if that works.
Ugh that was one of the fixes back in my Avid days 😛

Is the issue timeline sizing?

Are the clips the same name?

If your proxy timeline is different but same aspect ratio, you can just change it to whatever the final is after.

however diff issue if the clips are not the same name.

I do recall this in the early days of frame io.

I was uploading dailies for 23 days shoot.
I think I was around day 12 and it started getting wonky.

I think back then it was overkill.

Now I use it for specifics e.g. VFX plate reviews blah blah blah.

They have been great at dealing with issues but we all know that never lasts.
