haha typo. I meant blank as in a drive you dont mind having to format.
I usually format my drives before I install an OS on it.

Thanks Oliver. Yes we have Twixtor on Avid at work and that too can get messy.
I guess next time shoot this stuff with a Phantom 😉

To be honest try a fresh install of Lion first.
Do you have an extra blan drive?
you dont even have to install FCPX on it, you can run it from the other Snow Leopard drive.
But yeah you should get a better video card and possibly more ram.

[T. Payton] “Actually be careful breaking apart a compound clip, there are some things that won’t break apart the way you had them originally.”
weird you replied that cause I just ran into that problem. its just transitions that get affected but yes that is not a good thing.
I was thinking at base editing where you place all edits in quick form.
I usually grab portions (I only do it for sfx AE stuff)for external apps at the start.
Until Apple updates FCPX, we will all have to be careful with these work arounds.

If its a huge project, duplicate it and then select all > Compound Clip.
Cutting that with the blade is easier.
You can always un Compound the whole mess after.

The only to do it is to put a file based system in between the mix.
Basically dump the file onto a DVD or BD then play back to DVCAM.
The other way is to use Blackmagics cheap Intensity PCI card or Shuttle/Extreme.

Also view your Comps at 100%.
The display will play tricks with your eyes at less or more.

Been running it for awhile now. Just make sure you are up to date with CUDA drivers.
We would love to try the better/faster options but they are not supported by Black Magic for Resolve and requires a hack from my understanding.
Where I work that wont fly with corp standards.

I want to blame the HDV clips but how about the PSD files?
what res are they? are they moving at all? motion blur?
Is your Quadro 4000 up to date with CUDA?
The rendering I can see since you are using a third-party such as Avids DNxHD, but are you sure you need 220? I use that all the time but thats with XDCAM and R3D clips straight into AMA.

I completely forgot about DS, goes to show you how deep their marketing is with that app 🙁
If anyone acquires Avid, itll be just maintenance the first few years then maybe some new innovations.
Last year I met up with our Avid regional sales (mid western Canada) and I asked him how they were doing with the Apple debacle. He flat honestly said they are not making squat. Sure they are getting some free marketing from the Twits and the Cows but no push in the black.
It didnt stop us from adding an extra MC seat and then recently Symphony (crossgrade) but does make us a little leery about they future.
we hope them the best since we all know that competition is good.
