After thinking about it does the 422 cable go from IO to deck or iMac to deck? If it is IO to deck then my suggestion won’t work will it?

I believe you will need a USB to serial converter from Keyspan to use the 9 pin cable. Run software. Select the adapter. Then connect the IO to your iMac. Something like that.

Agree that it is not importing and more posters need to get the nomenclature correct. Good night.

“I really don’t put much stock in an “encyclopedia” anyone can edit.”

    True, but

How about this from wiki. Bored on a Sunday.

But this is not technically accurate, as the footage is already digital, so it is not really being digitized, but rather encoded into whatever format the non-linear video editing software uses.

Electronic encoding transforms a signal into a form optimized for transmission or storage, generally done with a codec.

First off, use the correct terminology. You are digitizing footage from a VTR. You are not importing a file.

Digitzing would be from analog footage. If it is on digital tape it is already digitized.

The computer specs are great. It’s the fastest and most processors you can buy from Apple. Are you asking about problems with FCS2? Can’t say, it is not out yet. FCP has 800,000 registered users so I guess it works pretty well. You need to tell us more about the format you are working in, how you want to store it and your final delivery format. Are you going to use Motion? Pleaase give more details and we will give you a better answer.

mpeg is not a editing format. It is a delivery format. Convert it to a quicktime dv and edit that.

Does this help justify the $500. With the upgrade to 6 you get software originally priced at $25,000. It is called Color.

This sequence that contains the Motion files is a commercial donut where I need to change the information on 10 Motion files. Each file has four lines of text. I created a template with text in place in each of the four lines. Each file is named “file01″ file02” and so forth. Created my donut sequence in FCP with the ten Motion files. All was fine. Quit FCP. Opened the 10 files in TextWrangler, used the search function within TW and searched for which jumped to the correct line. Highlighted the old text and typed in the new text. Did that for all 10 files and four lines each file. Saved and quit TW. When I tried to start FCP the splash screen came up for 5 or 10 seconds and then the dialog box came up that FCP crashed and did I want to send a report and the other options. Only until I replaced the TW edited files with new files from the template could I open up FCP. Thanks.
