    Hey everyone,
My final cut pro 5.0.4 has been crashing loads lately. It started on my most recent project (multimedia large). Unusually I’ve used quite a few clip derived from youtube, that have been converted from .flv to .flv.mpg, I was wondering if this format might have caused anyone else this problem?

What’s the best way to resore it’s stability if it keeps crashing?

    Anyway, thank you for reading!

I have also been having the same difficulty. I was asked if I updated my OS software through software update and updated to OX 10.4.9 there is some stability issues. I have not been able to work around them so tomorrow start the fun process of wiping my HD and starting from scratch.

That release is pretty stable from recollection. Do you have the problem with other projects? Try opening and messing with some older ones.

Certain behaviours, such as ‘out of memory’ messages often point to a corrupted project, render or media file. See if trashing prefs and deleting render files helps. Failing that, consider a clean reinstall of the OS and FCP. Sometimes it’s worth the couple of hours work to do it.

mpeg is not a editing format. It is a delivery format. Convert it to a quicktime dv and edit that.

Ah yeah.. thanks for the help. So far it’s only affected this project so I’m hoping I can avoid The total wipe scenario. I’m going to try using a different file format and hopefully when I get ewnough time to try my other projects they’ll still be working fine.

Thanks for the advice Little knoll, Ben Holmes & Gineric1.
