Hey Anthony,
I recently gave FCP studio 2 a try and really liked it. It is very stable and very smooth in the way that it handles footage etc. I have always been a diehard Ppro user, but I agree with you on the fact that it has its downfalls in the area of stability.
So, since the only way that CS5 will seem to benefit me is if I buy a $4000.00 Quadro card, I will just dive into FCP and take a look at the new FCP Studio 3. I guess it won’t hurt to spend some time there anyways….it will just make me more rounded as an editor….being able to operate in either system.

Hey Vince,
“calm down” hahaha (I didnt sound “that” irrate did I?) :o) Just really dissappointed, that’s all…..have been looking forward to this for months, i’m sure along with boatloads of others, only to get a “punch” in the gut. lol
Anyhow, I totally understand “why” they dont allow it. And I agree 100% with you, that we should be able to use it on the timeline and only have the ability to encode videos in those formats disabled. I refuse to drop that kinda dough when I cant even see if my system is able to handle the software, and if it can, will it really benefit greatly from it. Oh well…..just have to sit back and read about the experiences of others over the next few months to see if it is of interest then.
Have a great night.

Alex, thanks for the insight. I was told by someone that you could you the camera as a playback device and it seemed to make sense. What your saying does make more sense though now that I think about it. Thanks again….learn something new everyday. :o)
Tim, thanks for your input as well….appreciate it. I see what you are saying as far as each application being able to have access to it’s full amount of RAM on a 64-bit OS. I am super excited however about CS5 being a full 64-bit software that should open the floodgates even more….would you agree?

I have had this happen as well…..i have both mac and pc. so when it crashes on my pc, i take the project file over to the mac, where it will open just fine, save it as another name, take that back to the pc, open it, relink media, and it always works. I really love my mac….that thing ahs saved me numerous times. So try that if you have access to a mac with cs4 on it

did you try creating a new proj and then importing the one you are having trouble with? I have never tried this, but have read posts that have taked about that.
The only problems I have ever had opening a proj, is if I have saved and then shut down the proj with the multicam veiwer open. it will not reopen….just hangs there like you are describing. only way i found to fix it is to take the proj file from my pc over to my mac, open it in cs4 on the mac, close the multicam viewer, save as a new project filename, reopen on the pc and it works. GOOFY! but maybe try to open your project on a mac if you have access to one.

well, i have had that happen b4 as well. if it will play in movie maker, rerender the file out of movie maker in movie maker’s AVI format. That will play on a P-Pro timeline and be editable. if it doesnt, then it is possible that the file is corrupt.
good luck
oh, if you wanna get a jumpstart on p-pro….go to https://www.lynda.com
for 25 bucks you can watch full tutorial vids from starting p-pro to advanced editing stuff. -
i run c: drive for OS/applications only
drive 2: for P-pro proj files
and then I run a Raid-0 (striped) setup for my raw footage/assets and media cache files. Thats what I have always been told to do.
the raid-0 makes a BIG difference in access speed

if you do any kind of multi-camera editing….P-Pro blows away FCP there.
FCP makes it more difficult to set-up and you dont have the control that you do in P-Pro over your multicam seq.
in FCP once your multi-clip seq is setup….you cant make changes like you can in premiere….for example, if you are shooting a 3 camera shoot and its an hour long. lets say one of your batteries dies, and that camera is not recording for exactly 3min. while the operator puts in a new batt. and restarts recording. in P-Pro you can go into the nest, and select that cam cut the clip, move it the exact 3 min. resync that portion, reopen your multicam viewer and go right back to work. FCP just doesnt have the multicam thing down like p-pro.
Again just my humble opinion.
