I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7. I went into Premiere Pro to open the backed up project and it just hangs near the end – says ‘Import file’ and just sits there. It’s quite a big project and would take a long time to recreate. Unfortunately, I did not back up the Auto Save files so cannot rollback to previous version.

did you try creating a new proj and then importing the one you are having trouble with? I have never tried this, but have read posts that have taked about that.

The only problems I have ever had opening a proj, is if I have saved and then shut down the proj with the multicam veiwer open. it will not reopen….just hangs there like you are describing. only way i found to fix it is to take the proj file from my pc over to my mac, open it in cs4 on the mac, close the multicam viewer, save as a new project filename, reopen on the pc and it works. GOOFY! but maybe try to open your project on a mac if you have access to one.

Thanks but I really don’t have access to a Mac. I tried importing into a new project but get an error message ‘an adobe dynamic link error occurred’.

Alex. I have tried that, renaming everything and it still hangs, so can’t even save as. Read somewhere else about having too many timelines open.

I had this problem a few times –

    1. When I tried CS3 project in CS4

    2. When the media has metadata problem.

    3. Inconsistent media.

In the case 2 and 3, I re-rendered the media on a different timeline, exported it back with same name and in the same location (off course took backups of original). And it did the trick.
