June 2, 2009 at 1:13 pm in reply to: Can anyone get excellent HD to SD results?

I have an EX3 and find 3 factors that have helped me to get excellent looking SD-DVDs with Vegas 8:

1.- always render (to mpeg2 DVD) with BEST quality (I used to go with “good” with previous SD cameras…..)

2.- Stay progressive (project and render) if you shoot that way…

3.- Try Variable Bit Rate… and even experiment with 2 pass ….

    good luck

Thank you all !!.. the first time I saw a mininotebook I was impressed… almost all run genuine Win XP (so you can install and run clip browser, and even your NLE)… it is a very nice and REALLY portable device (sorry, but MBP and other win laptops are HUGE) also for showing clips and demos to your customers…

    good luck

May 15, 2009 at 1:55 pm in reply to: blu-ray playback compatibility

…from my point of view, the most important thing to do (besides quality between bluray brands) is to check with your customer if his Blu Ray player CAN play the format you’re going to “burn”… if you’re going to burn a BD-R disc, just check for compatibility in the operator manual of the player….

one 100 % compatibility option for viewing and distributing “bluray” spec. video is through the WD media player, although you don`t have a disc (no fancy menus), you can play any high quality 1080p file (recorded on a USB unit) through the HDMI port to any HDTV with excelent quality… and maybe can “include” the player for the customer as part of the final product…

    good luck

May 11, 2009 at 1:08 pm in reply to: Adaptimax Plus Nikon to Sony EX3 released.

Does your adaptor let us use fish-eye or super wide Nikon lenses on the EX3 with good results (like SLRs) ??? or is it different because of the magnification factor ??

    Kind regards

April 26, 2009 at 4:54 pm in reply to: EX3 Firmware Wishlist

..I’m not sure if can be software update, but making the “instant AF-lock” button work like in other Sony cameras would be nice… (working in full manual focus, but pressing the button to instant AF)…

and, of course, let ALL XDCAM-EX Sony customers to make our own updates by download & install on the cameras without having to send the equipment ….

    regards

April 18, 2009 at 2:02 am in reply to: What is your XDCAM bag?

What kind of memory cards do you use?
SDHC Sandisk Ultra 16 gig cards with MxR adapters. Absolutely NO problems with the combo…

How many cards are you comfortable carrying?
Usually 2 16 Gig plus 2 8 gig… about 3 hours per session which has been enough for most of my projects….

    How many batteries?
Just one.. Anton Bauer Dionic 90 with the QR adapter for the EX3… believe me.. I kept the battery from my previous camera (JVC HD110) and with the adapter NEVER need another battery (plus the added benefit of extra weight balance)

A laptop for data offload, or some other way?
Not needed with extra SDHC cards… laptop too risky …

Do you have a Mattebox? Filters?
Not yet… (I have to pay the loan for the camera first..)

    Portable monitor?
    Nop… (but the EX3 has an EXCELENT monitor-viewfinder !!)

    Good luck

  • …try changing the PAR setting on one custom rendering template to get wide-WMV… I’ve done it before to get perfect widescreen WMVs…

    good luck

April 16, 2009 at 3:22 am in reply to: Aliasing – Sony EX1?

I have Vegas 8 (and an EX3) … be sure to set BEST on preview window when taking stills (and ALSO BEST quality when final rendering to DVD)… and your project properties according to your shoot (if 1080p you’ll need 1920 x 1080 progressive, 25fps, etc.)….. I’ve obtained amazing stills from Vegas 8 timeline with the proper settings…

    good luck

XDCAM EX clips MUST be wrapped to mxf with clip browser… I wish full support without any conversion from my XDCAM EX … just a wish…
