..if your NLE supports drag and drop native clips on the timeline, you can arrange the clips sequentially and play them from there… I work with Vegas which needs the clips to be converted to mxf first…
good luck

…I have an EX3 (Vegas 8c and DVD arch) and first tests show me “not so good” quality DVDs produced from my takes (“jagged edges”, “fuzzy” images, etc.) …
What I’ve found is that I need to render (from my HD timeline) to the mpeg2 DVD arch template always checking the BEST quality setting option… it makes a BIG difference (not so with DV files) and almost takes care of all my old complaints …. I’ve made rendering tests with “progressive” settings checked but cannot see any difference with the std. template (maybe because DVDs at the end are interlaced?..) maybe checking 2 pass VBR option also can improve (need to test also)quality (with longer rendering times…)
good luck

…. when rendering in Vegas from HD to SD-DVD it is very important to always check for BEST quality setting on your render template to DVD arch…. working with good old DV doesn’t makes too much difference between good and best quality (besides rendering times)… my 2 cents…
good luck

March 1, 2009 at 5:24 pm in reply to: render HD to DVD std – strectch or pan aspect-ratio ??…making further tests:
– the “stretch” mark option works as expected (NO pilar boxing) only on an HD timeline (not on a SD timeline working with HD)…..
so maybe is best to work on an original HD timeline knowing that the final output will be whatever you want ….
however, if the final video will be “stretched” (OK just a few pixels) maybe it will be “deformed” (nobody will tell you that) vs. the “cropped” version worked on the SD timeline… am I right ??
still waiting comments about this…. (I don´t know premiere or FCP handles this very “little” issue…)

I like the look of 1080p30… to my needs and maybe for “my style” is the setting that gives me the best look, 720p is also good (but I prefer the highest res.)… DO some real tests filming & producing (workflow) some final products on your own (DVD, web clips) and COMPARE for your final decision ….
good luck

My set list:
HD Monitor, HD Deck….. yes HD monitor (almost any good PC monitor is HD capable)…no HD deck at this moment needed (EX3 camera)
HD Plug-in for whatever editing platform you use…Sony Vegas with Sony Clip Browser (free) is all I need….
Blu-Ray burner/ DVD Authoring software updates?… DVD arch 5 is already capable of BluRay… however I’m only producing for DVD & web at this time (and showing HD clips on DVD-ROM for PC viewing).As for the camera itself;
Spare battery(ies)… AB Dionic 90 with the AB adapter for the EX3 is all I need…. never run out of power (fortunately I keep my dionic from my last JVC 110)
Extra (16G?) SXS card…. not 1 but 2 16Gig SDHC sandisk card with the MxR adpater solution…. incredibly cheap for this kind of performance…the workflow for the EX3 is just amazing, never go back to tapes…
just makes the “jump”… is easy, fun and is the future…good luck

February 18, 2009 at 12:00 am in reply to: Making Cool Effects With A .png logo file?maybe also want to add some Vegas FX to the logo with keyframes to make it “alive”… lens flare, pinch/punch, wave, light rays, TV simulator are good examples….

..don’t pretend to start debate here, but take a look to Sony Vegas with a real PC workstation… once tried final cut and I stay on the PC side (and yes I don´t like windows neither….)…
good luck
