Thanks guys for reconfirming what I already suspected. It is always good to hear other people’s opinions on such things before telling people to change their plans. By the way, we have a Kona LS here and I have more storage than I need (SCSI and FW800 drives…so not concerned about that). I have put in my two cents…hopefully they listen. If not, I am sure I will make it work, whatever workflow they choose. If they do go down the digibeta route though, will I have sync issues, or will I be cool? You were saying that there is a standard 3:2 pulldown inserted on the tape? This is news to me, but that would be great. So this means: if for some reason they wanted to work at 24fps I could concievably bring the footage captured from the digibeta into Cinema Tools and do a reverse telecine and get the same effect as if I just brought the varicam footage in over FW removing the extra frames?

I am not certified myself, but I think it would be valuable, especially if you would like to pick up FCP teaching gigs on the side. I don’t really NEED to do it, but I am thinking of doing it for this very reason.

You may have already done it, but often when this kind of thing happens to me, a trusty old preference trashing and quiting fcp does the trick…usually after a lot of head scratching.

Thanks guys. Seem to always be in the middle of a project here! I just think that some of the easy setups are messed up on the old drivers, but that is a very minor issue. I will wait till we have some down time here.

I don’t really know what it was that the editor gave the flame guy; the flame guy says it was an EDL, but I doubt that is what it was as someone pointed out, an EDL is just a text file. I should ask the editor himself what it was that he exported. I’m in NYC myself and so is the editor; if the location question was directed towards me.

I don’t know if it is an EDL…that is just what the Flame guy called it. Thanks for the help.

If you have a TC capable DAT player with deck control and you have a capture card, I believe you should be able to capure the audio with timecode. Then you can use that timecode to sync picture and sound by going to Modify>Merge Clips

March 6, 2006 at 7:06 pm in reply to: software comparison for green screen keying questionAE will give you so much more than just keying…but even so I think most people use 3rd party plugins when keying in AE. For DV shot stuff we have used DV Matte Pro in AE and it worked pretty well, though DV is usually a pain to key no matter what. I think the choice keyer around these parts for most of our keying needs is primatte. Though the built in FCP keyer it is usually terrible, I have actually been able to pull a decent key with it…though the footage was HD and lit extremely well.

Try the deinterlace filter…also the flicker filter sometimes helps, but mostly with type I think. But I have seen this myself, and solved it with these two toys.
