Suppose you have one drive – drive C:. Now you render from C: to C:. Your drive has to spend time reading from drive C: and then writing TO drive C:. Both processes take time and slow each other down.
Now suppose you have TWO drives: drive C: and drive D:. You render from drive C: to drive D:. Now you are simply READING from C: and WRITING to D: so neither process has to wait on the other one giving you a faster render.
Of course this is assuming that the reading and writing is not waiting on the CPU to finish processing some effect.

For your own personal use for your own viewing pleasure, no problem. Start including “family and friends” is where your problems start.

That is not legal without purchasing the proper rights.
Do a search for “Royalty Free Music” and you can freely use that in your projects once purchased. You can also create your own music using programs such as Acid. The use of “popular” music you simply rip from a CD is not legal unless you pay the proper fees and, unfortunately, there is no good means of doing so for the small videographer. That’s why you’ll find that many simply do it anyway even though it is illegal. Personally, I use royalty free music.

As soon as you render to MPEG2, you WILL begin to lose information. Having said that, I routinely do 2 hours on a single layer disc and the quality looks the same as the original miniDV to my eyes. VHS copies look worse. I think you’ll be happy with the results.
Now, if you truly want a straight MiniDV to DVD solution, hook your camera up to one of the standalone DVD burners. You’ll have your DVD in real time.

Vegas 6 and DVDA 3 both have a ton of features over Vegas 3. The “Movie Studio” product is basically the “little brother” to Vegas and is priced accordingly.

Put the text in a standard text box. Make the text box the proper length for the text (change the “Length” field in the upper right-hand corner as well as change the length of the event on the timeline). Go to the “Placement” tab and set the first keyframe so that the top line is just off the bottome of the screen. Now set a second keyframe at the end so that the bottom line is just off the top of the screen.
Now you have text that will scroll straight up. On that track, change the mode the 3D and rotate the track so that it looks like the Star Wars scroll.

Standard video is 720×480. You’re not gaining anything by changing those settings as it must be at 720×480 to send to DVD or VHS (assuming NTSC standards)
