  • Scrolling tons of text…

Posted by Terje A. bergesen on May 18, 2005 at 11:57 pm

I know this has to be easy, but I seem to be unable to figure this one out. This is proably due to the fact that I just made the jump from Ulead Media Studio to Vegas, and I have some “bad” habits.

I have a ton of text, and I want to scroll it across the screen, in 3D. The text fills more than a 480 hight screen. Think the Star Wars intro with a lot of text.

When I enter it in the text box, the text is clipped top and bottom (as expected), and I can make it scroll in 2D by placing it in the text box. This doesn’t help though, since I would like to scroll in 3D.

I know this must be possible, but I can not make it happen. Any help appreciated.

Put the text in a standard text box. Make the text box the proper length for the text (change the “Length” field in the upper right-hand corner as well as change the length of the event on the timeline). Go to the “Placement” tab and set the first keyframe so that the top line is just off the bottome of the screen. Now set a second keyframe at the end so that the bottom line is just off the top of the screen.

Now you have text that will scroll straight up. On that track, change the mode the 3D and rotate the track so that it looks like the Star Wars scroll.
