CAUTION! This is a potentially dangerous process that can mess up Vegas. If you mess up, you’ll have to restart Vegas holding down the SHIFT key to reset all settings. So… proceed at your own risk:

Hold the SHIFT KEY and go to Options – Preferences and there will be a new tab marked “Internal.” Search for the word “Dock” in the word field.
Change this to TRUE.

Close the preferences screen and your timeline will now be on the bottom of the screen.

What version of Vegas (6a/6b)? Are you loading that veg as nested in the other tests?

I do ALL of my editing now on two laptops. I try to not capture to drive “C”. The older laptop has an external firewire drive attached. The newer laptop has two hard-drives built-in. You might want to consider replacing the 4200RPM drive with a 7200RPM version, though.

I have gotten to the point where I find it difficult to recommend anyone to buy a desktop machine. Laptops are soooo much more convenient for so many things and are, often, just as powerful (but they do cost a little more for the same speeds).

I agree. An image of the stable system can be a lifesaver. When something starts to go wrong, pull any really “must save” files off that partition, restore the image, restore those “must save” files, and you’re back to running normally.

For your anti-virus, I believe that AVG is a free alternative (for personal use).

Grafitti will have the larger learning curve but should, ultimately, be more powerful. The “lite” version included will let you test the learning curve. Plus it will integrate directly on the Vegas timeline.

Cool 3D is easier to use but is totally standalone.

Another one you might look at is BluffTitler which is also totally standalone.

How’s the temp on your computer? Is it getting too hot?

After you take the snapshot, load it in Photoshop and deinterlace it. Does that make a difference?
