Posted by Dietrich on August 26, 2005 at 7:01 amWould a laptop computer handle Vegas ok? Here’s an example: Intel Pentium 4 532 w/HT (3.06GHz), 512MB ram, 100GB (4200RPM), DVD supermulti burner, 128MB ATI Radeon 9700.

August 26, 2005 at 12:10 pmVegas works great on my laptop. Got it there for my field work.
I have a Toshiba A75 S229. P4 538. However I purchased an external Hitachi TravelStar 5k80 USB/Firewire HD 80gb 5200rpm and an enclosure for capturing. That works great also. It’s powered by USB abd data through the Firewire.
With DV Rack, I capture from my Sony VX2000 directly throught the laptop to the hard drive. Tape is for backup.
I had quite a large post with the URL’s of where I got the stuff. Do a search on laptop or external portable HD

August 26, 2005 at 1:37 pmI do ALL of my editing now on two laptops. I try to not capture to drive “C”. The older laptop has an external firewire drive attached. The newer laptop has two hard-drives built-in. You might want to consider replacing the 4200RPM drive with a 7200RPM version, though.
I have gotten to the point where I find it difficult to recommend anyone to buy a desktop machine. Laptops are soooo much more convenient for so many things and are, often, just as powerful (but they do cost a little more for the same speeds).

You might want to be careful repeating that too much. R&R Partners, the owners of the trademark, have filed a lawsuit with a lady that used it on T shirts.

August 26, 2005 at 5:31 pmI’m not advertising or making a profit. I’m having fun with fellow Vegas users. Is there something wrong with you? If you’re some type of lawyer, then why don’t you email me personally and let’s have a good ‘ol chat, kapish?
And how about adding your 2 cents worth to notebook computers and using Vegas. I hope I’m not violating any laws by saying “Vegas

August 26, 2005 at 5:36 pmsorry, i tried to remove any message signature to my last posting after editing my profile, but it didn’t work. I’ll try here again to make sure it doesn’t come up. I’ve been to a lot of editing forums – there’s another one that some vegas users use. I have never been treated the way the last person spoke to me. I think I may stop coming to creative cow

August 26, 2005 at 10:04 pmI wasn’t trying to cause an argument
Anyone who knows me knows I am a very mild person. I was just stating a fact that some companies, one example was Monster Cables who was out sueing anyone that used the term Monster with anything.
R&R Partners actually bought the slogan from The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for the sum of $1.00. R&R is the agency of record for LVCVA and since LVCVA, being the type of organization they are, are unable to legally go after anyone thought to be diluting their slogan for overuse. So R&R purchased the slogan so they could legally do it for them.
There would probably not e any problem here, but with the threads in the Business Forum concerning copyrighted material ad legallities, I thought you might wish to be aware.Charlie
