Vegas 6 was just released 6 months ago. Plus, Vegas 6 handles HD just fine. Here’s an article that might be of interest to you:

There are several choices. A “lite” version of Boris Graffiti comes with Vegas. Upgrading to the full version lets it integrate with the timeline but there is some limitations. There’s also Heroglyph which also integrates directly on the timeline. And Cayman Graphics will also work directly on the timeline.

Then you get to standalone version such as Blufftitlers, Cool3D, Flash titlers, etc…

As for which is best, that’s a decision you must make as what is best for you may not be best for me.

You can drop the clip on the timeline and press “S” to split the events at the scene changes. You’ll have to manually locate those changes, though. If you actually want separate files, you may be better off just recapturing or using some other program (not Vegas) that can detect scene changes and split the files.

My first suspicion would be that it’s looking for some device that isn’t there and it finally times out when the device is not found. Maybe something like a scanner?

To save in AVI format, you simply choose File – Render As – pick the AVI file type and the NTSC-DV or PAL-DV preset. However, based on your post I’m not sure that’s where the problem is. So, what exactly is the problem? Vegas won’t read these files? What is “fraps”? What codec does it use?

An alternative that I’ve started using is to right-click the VEG file and then choose “Open Project”.

That particular feature is. I still find it easier to just capture via firewire running the DVD player through a deck/camera/convertor.

I’m guessing this is a computer issue of some sort. Hard to tell if it’s a hardware issue or a windows issue. I would be in normal use in ANY program, the same thing would happen.
