I just installed Vegas 6 and uninstalled Vegas 5. I can not open up my Vegas 5 .veg files unless I import them as media. Is this normal or is this a problem with my copy. If this is a problem does anyone know the solution?

Veg files from previous versions should open up normally – the only caveat being that once they’re saved in V6 they can’t be re-opened in V5, so it’s wise to Save as to leave the previous veg unchanged.

I don’t know why yours are behaving this way. I normally leave the previous version on the computer when installing a new one, but this should make no difference.

I can only suggest uninstalling and reinstalling.

I have a hunch that you are trying to open the veg files by dropping them into the timeline. It doesn’t work this way anymore because that’s how you create nested veg files.

Instead, take the File > Open route.

An alternative that I’ve started using is to right-click the VEG file and then choose “Open Project”.
